…ok.
Well there was me worrying my heart out about climate change.
Now, after a slow burn start - along comes this little Tablette 10 that’s gonna set the world on fire.

Don’t fret. Feel the burn.

At least it’s more interesting than switches.

Well, I am a long time user of “BBC speakers” and have listened with Rogers BBC Studio Monitors (from the mid seventies, still in use with the Naim boxes), and Rogers LS3/5a (since the mid eighties, still in use, not so often with the Naim). Maybe not far from the Graham Audio versions (though there is always heated debate about this, and indeed if I have the 15 or 11 ohm versions - does not matter).

However, back to the topic of filling stands…

My experience (for what is is worth in the current discussion) was to get some lead shot scrapings from the local gun smith, and I mixed this with sand to fill the legs of what I I think are Partington 35A Designer Stands (second hand shop soiled deal). There are four legs, maybe two inches square and of course some two feet high, per stand. You can do the maths and work out the volume!

I remember a tub of the shot about a foot high and maybe a foot or more in diameter, which was maybe 30kg. I spread it out on trays and picked out the shot, which was not uniform size, leaving the bits of gunpowder that were part of the mix. Took ages…

I split the sorted shot into eight equal parts, filled each leg for the bottom part, and topped up with dried silver sand (the sort that is now used for sweeping into brick paving) and shook down as best I could to fill the gaps in the shot.

Now I have very heavy stands for the LS3/3a, and they are spiked to the floor boards, and blue tack under the speakers.

God yes, if I see one more thread about ethernet I might just leave.

Just enjoy. I have a new set of Spendor 9.2s arriving Friday a long with other Naim equipment - sand free!

Apart from HH’s SL2s, I also have a pair of 15 ohm LS3/5As…

Is that the flashy Italian Solidwood stand we hear so much about?

Well that’s flushed out some BBC technology! Rogers Studio 1a here…

It is solid oak. It’s amazing how the LS3/5A totally changes its character when you give it some free air around it. It’s a bit like turning the stifling loudness control off on a Qb.

Rosewood. Its one of the extra cost finishes. Here’s a pic that shows more detail of the finish

Thanks, will do. I wasn’t happy with the blu-tack solution, it damaged a pair (not the tablette 10s) when I took them off the SS-6’s

I opted for a weight (mass) approach. I put 1kg into each leg, so used 6kg across the two stands. Just under 1 tub’s worth. Difference was noticeable, tighter bass.

The rosewood looks fabulous

Yet PMC now supply their stands with blue tack because they consider it best

Blutac is what ProAc suggested I use to stick the speakers to the stands. What was good enough in 1980 still seems ok 40 years later.
