As Ian says, that’s a really lovely deck. I bet it sounds as good as it looks, I’d love to hear a PTP Lenco one day. Welcome aboard.
I’ve heard an Aethos on a few occasions, with Harbeth, n-Sats, Focal. I don’t want to join the discussion on integrates or move it here, but the Aethos in my opinion is a very very good integrated vs which even a SN3 - the best iteration of the SN so far, in my opinion - seems a little unrefined and approximate. The Aethos has an almost extraordinary level of low-level detail, a magnificent soundstage and an extended and smooth treble that gives a lot of air to the music and makes it supremely enjoyable. My opinion only of course, but if it hadn’t those Egyptian Death Chamber looks and if it didn’t cost three and half times as much as I paid for my Wazoo, I’d have bought it.
I had an Aethos, it’s very heavy . Very heavy, I have dodgy knees, a cataract and two incisional hernias.
The inputs are on the right hand side (near the wall) if I ever wanted to do something with it (like changing an input) it would be impossible and (maybe) an accident waiting to happen
My Nova now sits where the Aetho was . I also wanted to add streaming , so the Aethos was moved on - not for audio reasons , it is a cracking amp
40 years ago today I started my LP12 journey. I would never have thought back then that it would still be with me today delivering enjoyment from vinyl.
After 21 upgrades over that time the only original parts left are the outer platter and the lid hinges (maybe that’s a record for lid hinges?) Talk about Trigger’s Broom!!!
Here is my original receipt - a bargain at £390 eh?
I have one last hurrah in a few weeks when Klimax Radikal 2 is incoming and it’s journey’s end (although a new cart is probably needed within 2 years).
It just doesn’t add up.
£390.50 less £10 deposit = £380.50, ok so he gave him and extra 50p off, not to sniffed at in 1982, in some places that would have bought you a pint!
Coincidentally yesterday I found an insurance quotation for my December 1992 system, the TMS in 1992 was a teeny bit more expensive than the Linn in 1982. (This was written by the much missed Derek Jenkins, RIP Del.)
A look further up the thread will show the same TMS and Artemiz (the 135s are still here as well), the Shiraz has been replaced more then once in 30 years, the DS1 was replaced by a Vertere SG1 a couple of years ago.
Free to good home contact below.
Haha that’s hilarious.
Second from front row, second from right. He’s dropped his LP12. Last day on the job most probably
Interesting Max, I’ve not heard the Aethos as yet, but I do hope to at some point as it seems so well thought of, although there are reports of a fiesty remote volume control. As mentioned, I’ve heard the Osiris and if the Aethos has a similar sound signature, then it should be a gem.
I quite like the Death Chamber looks.
Actually, I like them too. Only, I find the Aethos a little visually impositive. When I demoed it at home, it made the Sats sound like never before, way beyond what I had had with my PrimaLuna EVO 100, a Nait XS3, a Lavardin IS reference.
I’ve heard the n-Sats a few times but they have never really clicked with me. If the Aethos can breathe life into them then it must have something special in its DNA.
I think Rega have a really interesting new design language at the moment, their products stand themselves apart from the rest of the ‘me too’ silver boxed components - I like a little bit of ‘sarcophagus chic’.
Sarcophagus chic. What a great expression. I really like the current Rega design. My P10 power supply and Aria sit together on the bottom shelf of the rack, and to me look really good together.
Rega make some good looking kit - nicely understated. Good to see the Rega book there too.
You’ve got to put something on the spare shelf. The book somehow seemed appropriate.
YZ,
as some may remember, I have had more than one pair of Sats. In my opinion (supported by that of other knowledgeable members) they have been a little re-voiced after a first production batch.
I owned Sats from early releases to late ones, in all finishes. My 2006 Sats sounded different from 2010 ones; they were leaner, with a more pronounced mid-treble, a little nasal perhaps. The black lacquer ones were fuller and more balanced.
The earlier models benefitted from a powerful and bodily amp greatly; the Aethos extracted a lot of sound from my last pair, early 2006. The PrimaLuna only seemed to move the tweeter and the Lavardin produced a very mannered, refined, precise scene with not much blood in it. With the rega, things exploded into large presentation, dynamics, fun.
A Nat would be good!
