Yes, I am.

Something a bit more prosaic - and black and white seems appropriate for vinyl somehow…

I bought this last year on a Black Friday whim for less than a pair of DIN-XLR Chord Shawline cables. I upgraded the basic cartridge but otherwise as out-of-the-box.

Got hold of a used Stageline N and astounded at just how good it sounds…

Hi YetiZone, yes I’m using the 2mm spacer under the arm of my Rega as per advice when using the Ortofon carts with Rega. Have you tried a metal subplatter on your RP6? I found it being a great upgrade and well worth the investment.

Ah, interesting, just wondered. I’m using a 4mm spacer as advised by Ortofon themselves after I dropped them a line as I could not get my 2M Black to (initially) sound good, but that did the trick. From what they said, its only the Black that’s such pain in this regard though and 2mm was ok for the rest of the range. Wish Rega would design in some VTA adjustment!

My RP6 is standard, and I think i’ll leave it that way, as I’m gradually saving up (glacially, as two children are in higher eduction) for a Rega P10 (or possibly a Vertere) and I’m about two thirds of the way there. If I do upgrade anything, I’ll seek out an LVB250 stylus for the 2M Black.

Rega P10 would be a big leap I’m sure! I’d like to have a P9 one day just because I love the looks of them, not sure how much of an upgrade in sound it would be over my modded RP6 though. They’re pretty rare in the second hand market here in Canada however.

Is that a 1500 ? I would suspect with a decent cartridge it would be pretty good

SL100C - essentially a 1500 minus built in phono stage, and with a cheapo AT cartridge (which I replaced with something a bit better).

It ‘just works’ and I have no itch to scratch for tinkering or tweaking, especially since vinyl is a secondary source…

…well that was the plan anyhow.

coming upto 50th year in 2024. Has had some work on it. rebuilt in 90’d by now sadly defunct West Midlands Audio, rewired, springs and RB300 arm. Had further work about 6 yrs ago and Quintet Blue fitted.

Nice. Half of West Midland Audio relaunched very successfully as Midland Audio Exchange and is still active as far as I know. ( Forgive me if I am stating the obvious.)

After a couple of years mucking about with suspension top mounting height, spring drop and friction damping, I was happy with where I’d arrived. So I had some nylon pillars machined to size with grooves machined to take the home-made neoprene fabric dampers.

Pretty much done now. It’s a keeper.

I’ll go black and white in colour. Goes very nicely with the classic Naim boxes:

In other news, I’ve added in a Heed Quasar phono stage that runs off the beefy Obelisk PX power supply that I already have. This is quite an improvement over the Rega Fono, much cleaner and refined. I’m getting a custom length DC cable from Heed so I can move the PX back to it’s usual home with the Canalot headphone amp (the PX can power both units at together). I’ve had to move it temporarily to the floor, as the standard cable is too short, and I need the second cable anyway. It’s a weird cable with a GX-16 6 pin to 4 pin arrangement.

Posted this picture also in the ‘What are you listening to … ‘ topic, but liked the P8 on the photo so well that I thought I might share it here as well …

Congrats Mikey, good buy. You have now a complete vinyl source, as the phono quality is up to the notch. If you listen mostly to 80’s rock music as I remember, don’t go further, if not your streamer will remain cold.

Minor addition to the vinyl set up today with a used Chord Chrysalis to connect the Heed Quasar Phono to the 552. It replaces a 30 odd year old original cable I used between my Arcam Alpha 7SE CD player to an A60 amp.

I’m really happy with the Heed Quasar, super low noice floor and nicely natural and cohesive. Silence between tracks! I didn’t know you could get that with vinyl.
