From what I can make out, it’s the bones of the 1500c but without the high mass platter or aluminum top plate. Same arm, cartridge and motor and feet (I think). So the plinth is has a plastic shroud.
I’m not particularly tempted having two great decks already at a higher level but it looks like a cracking starter deck or even an endgame budget deck.

It’s priced in U.K. at 750, the 1500 can be had for 799 so looks like it’s going to be a style choice, looks smart.
I wonder if that’s partly stock clearance. The 1500c is basically twice the price of the 50c in Japan.
They are marketing it here as the SL40cbt, unless there is another variant.
Different decks. Basically the same but the 50 has no phono stage and no Bluetooth.
Ahh ok, maybe that will turn up in UK as well and maybe be closer to £600 range.

Both decks have a built in phono stage. The differences are the 50 has a 78rpm option, the 40 does not. The 40 has built in bluetooth, the 50 does not. The 40 comes with an Audio-Technica AT-VM95C. The 50 comes with an Ortofon 2M Red.

Freshly installed yesterday, a stunning Technics SL-1000R. Still running my onl Linn Krystal as plenty of life left in it. Combined with the Pass Labs phono stage it is simply stunning. A worthy front end for the Gryphon and T808’s

Stuck in my work flat work this weekend so thought I would use the time to catch up on some listening. Was part way through “George Best” by the Wedding Present and thought I would start on my ironing. On the first press of the steam button on the iron a loud “whomp” came over the speakers. Loud enough that the dog who had been kipping in front of the speakers leapt to her feet and shot out of the room. Tried steam again and sure enough same thing happened.
Ironing left until later but no ironing problem on any other input!!! Maybe try another socket for the iron???

Congrats Iain. I have run one now for a couple of years. Just love it. I also use the ds headshell with Linn ekstatic. There are a couple of things you could try that I found improved the sound further. A vertere mat, KAB damper for the arm and the Mnpctech feet have all made a positive difference.

Thanks @gthack, it has replaced an LP12 (Radikal, Urika, Tangerine). I was previously running an active all Linn system but needed to change the amps. The rest of the Linn bits followed and it was a tough decision to get rid of the LP12, but ultimately it’s a love of music and the Technics beat the Linn hands down. I could have spent £11.5k on a new PSU to drive the rubber band, but DD and the SL1000 has me mesmerised. I’ll probably need to replace the cartridge next year, so I’ll line up a demo at some point.

They really are something else, aren’t they! It has made me realise what I’ve been missing, it just sounds so right.
I will leave any changes for a while as currently trying cables. Tonearm cable (Chord Signature X) and xlr from phono (Chord Epic). Should have some Tellurium Q Ultra Black here this week.
I did promise my wife that the Technics meant no more fiddling, but I don’t think a mat and damper really count !!!

Just a quick question for the Technics 1000R owners (just curious)…Is there any performance advantage to owning the SP10 motor unit in isolation, as it then opens up the options of tonearm and plinth choices?
I think I saw a YT video from Oswald Mills Audio where they make a meticulously crafted (and very heavy) cast iron plinth. (edit, it was - image from their website). I wouldn’t like to move this beast around…
