You might want to have a chat with Linn about that ![]()
Why? Linn does the same thing?
Very nice. The older I get, the more I like vintage/retro everything
There must be a name for thIs condition ![]()
Linns top of the range (Klimax level) phono stage, Urika II digitises the LP12 analogue signal and pipes it out to an Exakt digital component (Exakt box, DSM or Exakt speakers).I think the digital vs analogue debate has passed. ![]()

Not at all really both Urikaâs are Klimax level one digital and the other analouge
One did not replace the other. ![]()
When I listen to my vinyl records, the whole chain is analog, from the turntable to the speakers; I canât imagine listening to analog any other way⌠and I make sure to buy AAA vinyl records whenever I can.
Doesnât my post simply point out that Linn ( and Exakt customers) consider that digitising analogue signals is not a bad thing? Or did you read something into it that wasnât there? ![]()
I read what it said.
Your implication was that the digitised version was an upgrade.
If not then just how it looks.
Nope that wasnât what I was saying. Simply that digitising analogue signals is fine these days. Not better or worse. Itâs a just a choice now.
Got my third turntable in play this week. Did a diy plinth from Finnish birch plywood for PTP6 Lenco with The Wand Master 10,3â tonearm. Tonearm board is made from Corian.
There are still few things to do but itâs mostly completed. Plinth is basically a prototype to see if I like the shape of it - and I think it does look cool!
I also bought new blobs for my old Xerxes, so that deck went resting until those arrive. I only have two phonoâs currently so Iâll need to think the third option, maybe Iâll try to get a used Vertere Phono-1 some day.
You may be hearing from Regaâs lawyers about copywrite infringement!
Doesnât look DIY. Looks as if it is the business sound wise as well.
I was a bit confused how this monster can be referred to Rega but now that you mentioned - it does have a bit of similarity when looking from top down! ![]()
Iâve had P8 previously so maybe the plinth idea came from there. Basically the idea came from a mix of several different turntables and to make it look a bit like axe.
I was only able to play couple of records yesterday, but it does sound great. Few tweaks are still required like a marble plate under the turntable and Dr Feickertâs Protractor NG to install cartridge better.
Picked-up my LP12 (and Nait XS3 and Radikal 1) from the Linn dealer today, now fitted with a Naim Prefix S and a Dynavector DV20X2-L.
This was based on discussions here over some time, leaving me with a longlist and finally a shortlist of 3 options all within the budget range:
- Rega ND7 and Linn T-Kable into XS3 phono stage
- Dynavector DV20X2 high output and Linn T-Kable into XS3 phono stage
- Dynavector DV20X2 low output into Prefix S phono stage, into XS3 aux2
I considered myself ready for a next level, and looked forward to a classic Naim solution.
First impressions are an amazing amount of detail, but it also sounds like both cartridge and phono need a fair bit more time & use to fully come on song, hopefully over the weekendâŚ
Some by-the-ways:
- âaux2â on a Nait XS3 is actually called âaux in & pwrâ
- the Prefix was new-in-box! Yet 19yrs old it was sent out for a service anyway
- the SNAIC of the Prefix coming from the deck is effectively rather short
- specs now 2018 Majik deck with LE fluted walnut plinth
- upgraded with Trampolin2, Karousel, preloved Klimax Radikal 1
- mint Ittok LViii mk1 fitted and now with Prefix S and DV20X2-L
OK, so I now have my first low output MC, and I will pick-up a new RCM shortly!
Hey @daddycool
Love your flutes ![]()
Congrats on your move to MC. Clever upgrade to allow this.
Hope youâre enjoying listening to lots of records this weekend.

What was your pre/power before the XS3?
Love your setup. Although I donât have my XS3 any more, I always felt it allowed me to fund a great TT and DAC, whilst getting a heck of a lot out of them. It was easily good enough to support auditioning turntables when I upgraded. I did replace my XS3 with a 42.5/110/HiCap but that weighty little integrated did me very well.
Also interested in that DV20x2, my 10x2 still has loads of life left, but could well make way for the 20x2 when the time comes.
Hope all your new gear settles in quick ![]()
I have had the privilege to audition and try an amazing load of Naim gear over the years.
But the only permanent residents here have been a CB Nait 2 and then this Nait XS3.
Yes I saw that in your profile, am interested to know what your experiences are with the change!
Thank you! The Ittok now also has better ergonomics, feels better weighted with the Dv20X2?
I bought the NAC42.5/NAP110 from gumtree, on a bit of a whim. I wanted to see what a classic Naim pre/power sounded like. I had a few thoughts about using the 110 with my UQ1, (that does TV duties) if it didnât work out.
They had been fairly recently non-Naim serviced when I bought them (I think about 5 years from memory) and came with their original SNAIC. I wasnât expecting fireworks when I plugged them into my SL1200G/ Graham Slee vinyl front end, and my then Hugo MK1 main digital front end.
Unfortunately I have to say they sounded instantly more engaging than my XS3 even from stone cold. I knew straight away that Iâd be keeping them in my main system, despite being an input short for my 3 sources.
I then started feebly looking for a matching CB HiCap, and within a month I think, one turned up, within a few hundred of the serial numbers of the 42.5/110! I bought it, and then sent the whole lot to Class A. The HiCap caps were apparently leaking, and the service work by the non-Naim provider fixed back to Naim specs.
Took me a while to put the XS3 up for sale. I intended it to be a long term purchase. It sold quickly and Iâm now thoroughly enjoying the 42.5/110/HiCap. They sound really very very good, and look great. I love owning them. Iâm now using Chord TT2, SL1200, CD5 sources. Having to swap the digital source cables round occasionally. I want to keep the MM boards in the pre, keeping it standard/stock, and am happy with the compromise.
It just sounds more engaging than the XS3, and I think it gives a bigger image as well, which isnât supposed to be a strength of the early Naim gear. I guess you just have to listen and make oneâs own mind up ![]()
Hope that makes sense!
Apologies for any thread deviation
Hereâs some pics as recompense!
Their Ukrainian Folk Songs gets a big recommendation here.
