Signals Kudos event

Is the retrofitting something one can do oneself? Iā€™d be interested to hear what you think of it.

I will watch them do it and let you know, they offered to do it and never implied that i should have a go. But they probably know by now i am a diy numpty. Will try and remember to take a piccy on my phone. Talk soon HH.

Just spotted this. I should explain.

The plan had been to put a top notch turntable, running through a superfine with Supercap DR

Trouble is, we already had three supercaps in use for the various systems. The 3 x 500 active system already had seven power supplies and we really had run out of room. On top of that, there was some merit in having a common playlist available between the various rooms and this was easiest with 2 x ND555s and 1 x NDX2.

Anyone with serious interest in this can always hear the relevant speakers and electronics with the most relevant sources anyway.

Alastair

Thanks @Gazza! I wonder if this will always be a retri fit upgrade or if the new ones will be Ā£1300 and no option for the old version. Please let us know if you think the Ā£300 was worthwhile. In this sport Ā£300 buys almost nothing so I suspect an evolutionary upgrade rather than revolutionary but if I was buying one I would go for the ā€˜Big Dogā€™ to stand the best chance of improving my system.

That sounds entirely reasonable Alastair! Easy for me to ask, but not so easy to deliver in the real world necessarily. I hadnā€™t considered the need to keep sources matched across the systems involved and I can appreciate the logic behind that. Also your logistical point re box-count! As you say, anyone with analog leanings will hopefully surely check it out for themselves with a vinyl source chez Signals.

Well chosen.
Just sold my 802d3ā€™s for 808s.
I did like the 802s but the 808 are so much better for Naim. Focal was never an option and I think no one with Naim equipment would ever give them a listen if there wasnā€™t this business connection.

Oh wouldnā€™t go that far. All room dependent but Naim and Focal can work very well together.

I have owned Focal (though at the time they were known as JM Labs?) speakers for 10 years and think they work well. Others will disagree, but the few who have heard my system are either very very diplomatic or really do like what it does.

I would have to disagree there. There are plenty of happy Naim Focal users out there.

I didnā€™t say that you can not enjoy music with Focals but it is my opinion that most would not combine Naim and Focal if there wasnā€™t this business connection. Before only a few did.
For me Focal was never an option to buy.
Iā€™ve heard them many times up to big Utopias with Statement but they never caught me.

OK, you sort of get away with the ā€˜I thinkā€™ bit, and hinting at a future tense, but otherwise it is a statement made in the same spirit of veracity as anything and everything uttered by BoJo the clown.

Of course ā€œI thinkā€ because I havenā€™t done or read any scientific research and statistics about it. If you donā€™t wanna read different views a forum might not be the best place for you.

That is of course not what you wrote earlier, which was a rather silly if not patronizing comment, as there are many happy Focal owners here as others have already clarified. I am not into Focal ā€“ happy PMC user here. But I donā€™t really understand this constant and tiring Focal bashing ā€“ which often, at least implicitly, suggests that those who like Focal suffer from some kind of obscure disorder. Silly really.

I was saying that before Naim and Focal joint, most wouldnā€™t came up with the idea to mix those brands because no dealers wouldā€™ve suggested it and that it was no option for me referring to the one member who listened to B&W, Focal and Kudos.
That is not patronizing.

Come on mate ā€“ re-read your post, admit that is was a silly if not patronizing comment. Be a grown-up; we expect from our 6-year-old that he admits mistakesā€¦

P.S. And of course, if one would ā€œnever give them a listenā€ how does one know that they are no good with Naim? I think itā€™s a good life philosophy to be open ā€“ try out different things in hifi and elsewhere. We encourage our son to try out lots of different foods, for instance ā€“ even when he is quite reluctant because of some obscure reason on occasion. Not quite your approach to life, is it?

Er, that looks quite patronising to me :grimacing:

It was a narrow statement that doesnā€™t say what people think it says - at least I donā€™t think it does :joy:. But itā€™s not worth getting worked up about either way. Letā€™s all move onā€¦

silly, patronising, admit mistakes, 6 year old, life philosophy, food, life approachā€¦

Strong words, lots of different and meaningful topics. But all off topic.
I guess you better re-read it without interpreting too much

Yes, @TimOopNorth letā€™s move on.

Not true. My dealer drew my attention to Focal speakers several years before the Naim/Focal merger occurred. Iā€™ve happily used the combination for years; know others who do, too; and my dealer uses the combination in his own system. Iā€™m not saying you should like the combination but many others do.

my dealer is naim most important dealer in France. He doesnā€™t sell Focals.
