Sir Roger Daltrey, frontman of 1960s-formed rock group The Who and a patron of the Teenage Cancer Trust - known for its annual fundraising concerts at the Royal Albert Hall - has been knighted for services to charity and music.
Yes he deserves one but how can they give a honour to darts play Luke Littler who’s only 18. Ridiculous .
It should be for folk who given service to the community etc not so called celebrities
Its recently been devalued to absolute zero credibility.

I thoroughly recommend Sir Roger’s autobiography, very entertaining, absolute top guy and in his prime a fantastic singer.
Luke Littler isn’t a celebrity he’s a sportsman, who’s managed to become World champion at an extraordinary young age.
Daltrey is an entertainer, so, as you say doesn’t really deserve a knighthood.
Littler gets an MBE, which is the lowest of the honours, and seems fair enough for what he’s achieved.
If it were me I’d ditch the whole honours shebang, which engrains elitism and is so often awarded to nobodies who’ve given cash to curry favour and further their own objectives.
Apparently, he’s been made SLTTK (Special Lickspittle To The King) for his charity work.
And anyway, it couldn’t have been for the songs he sings, he just sings them; but I suppose awarding Townsend membership of The Establishment was out of the question, what with all that book research.
Hope I die before I get old.
The British Empire Medal is lower than the MBE. It is never given to celebrities but normally to people who have been running a charity unpaid for 50 years.
One of my friends has the BEM for his work in the British Diplomatic Corps, which he joined after the Second World War.
He turned 99 this year and has only just stopped driving and sold his car a month ago.
DG…
I had a friend who was given a OBE , he said it was for Other Buggers Efforts!!!
I thought it may been because of his excellent Brewery
Raised ÂŁms for the Teenage Cancer Trust and which he maintains a constant involvement.
One of our neighbours was awarded a BEM a few yeas ago.
She runs a Sunday school, organises blood-runners … most nights from 7pm onwards, runs a local charity that helps homeless people .. and by “runs a local charity” as well as fund raising, she finds temporary and/or permanent homes … she helps people with learning difficulties to apply for jobs or social security benefits (many such people have difficulty coping with the mountain of paperwork or computer applications required to obtain what society has said they are entitled to) etc etc etc.
She is 75+ and still in full-time employment, her husband having passed away a few years ago after about 15 years of long-term illness where she was the basic carer …
… as your post suggests, some of these awards are deserved beyond belief !,
And what is wrong with elitism?
To answer that would break forum rules on political discussion so probably not a question to ask on here?
Everyone needs to pee and poo, there is no difference between us.
Well my point is that Shakespeare, Bach, Beethoven, Miles D etc were elite and I couldn’t see anything wrong with that, nor political. Indeed at the 2012 Olympics our pride was in our commitment to “elite sports”.
They were hardworking and gifted people, nothing elite. Bach was even put in jail.
Cultural elite they most definitely were, and in many cases received patronage of royalty, wealthy or religious elites.
