SN2 vs SN3

Hmmm. I have a NDX2 with SN2 and the streamer was still up and down after a months burn in. I think it’s a bit early to panic, but swapping left/right channels would do no harm.

Thanks. What do you experience in the ‘ups and downs’? How long did it take to settle in?

Mostly moving between good and a bit harsh and a loss of dynamics (becoming constrained). It was reasonably settled after 2 to 3 months and then really came on song after about 8 months (I’ve had it since April last year). I got the SN2 and NDX2 together, so a bit hard to generalise, but a rule of thumb seems to 9 months for a good new system to fully come on song. My Nova has been the same.

@Mike_S do you play CDs or stream locally?

I stream locally from a Uniti Core @Pete_the_painter. I occasionally play a hi-res audio DVD from one of my Bluray players. But the flexibility of streaming when I had a Qute2 and streamed from my Mac won me other, though it wasn’t always reliable. With the Core and NDX2 and Nova, streaming is great quality and solid these days. I use the older platform wirelessly on a Uniti2 sometimes, too, and with the Firware updates, that is reliable these days.

I also use Tidal hi-fi, but if I find something I really like, I’ll buy the CD and rip it, as the SQ is better for me. Quite a few bands that I follow also don’t use streaming services.

I was just wondering, reading about how long your streamer took to settle in. I can’t remember having any burn in with the 272. I have found some CDs and hi res downloads some better than others.

Likewise. I am puzzled as my NDX2 was great straight out of the box. I can’t say that there has been any fluctuation in performance. If it has improved with time then it will be very minor.

Well, mine, now with a short month and a half old, quite harsh, constrained (some reduced dynamics) and some bass lacking during the first month. From the first month, and especially since the incident that manifested the loss of the network inputs (which was finally successfully resolved with a couple of hard resets of the entire system), seemed to bloom suddenly, suddenly, with an impressive leap forward in both dynamics and smoothness and, above all, the appearance of the full range of bass frequencies with all its nuances. Although it is probably also part of the Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista 600 integrated burn in. Currently, I still find it a bit like @Mike_S comments “still up and down”, but with the ups and downs much less marked.

Hi Martyk, On my sn2 is the same, as well as on quite e few other members that reported the “issue”, on both sn generations, 2 & 3. It has been discussed in this very same thread if I am not mistaken. the difference with yours is that you claim to be sitting at 10 o’clock when centered, usually it stays somewhere at 11:30 with most folks that reported dis balance and yes, it stays like this after it has settled, it is not something related to being new. Mine is like 5 months old now and has maybe 500 or more hrs on it and knob has been in this position ever since I bought it. Does not bother me anyway, one gets used to it I guess.

Having an issue with the volume on SN3 remote. My volume up is working but the volume down has stopped working. So bizarre. Really frustrating. Does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks

Seems odd, maybe remove batteries for a minute and see, why don’t you use NDX2 remote and set up system automation?

Did you try new batteries? - when batteries start to get low you get weird behaviour such as this. Also check that the volume knob hasn’t been pushed in too far and is rubbing or being prevented from moving in the reverse direction.

The next day it just started working again thankfully. Straaange  thanks for your advice, will get new batteries if it happens again

Hi hollow, never thought of trying this so I could use the NDX2 remote. Can’t seem to get the system automation to work though :exploding_head: I assumed the preamp input was 3. Have tried alL in the app. Zero luck. Guess I’m doing something basic wrong, just can’t figure it out

Have you connected up the mini jack lead?

Erm I don’t think so… does that come with the NDX2? :man_facepalming:t3: I’ll have a look in the box. Where does it go? Thanks

Not in the box. Is it something you need to purchase separately?

Just get a normal mini jack to mini jack lead, you can pick them up for a few quid, connect to remote connector socket on back of SN & NDX2, switch on automation in app and then you’re good to go! How are you getting on with XPSDR by the way?

Safer with a mono lead ime.

Perhaps but I use a stereo and it works just grand, they’re easier to come by too
