SN3 AV in

I have just re-installed my system after a house refurb and am not sure whether I have a new problem or my memory is playing up!

I use the Front pre-outs on a Marantz NR1711 to feed to my AV in via a Naim Din to RCA cable that I was using before. The AV bypass is set, and is clearly working as, when I select the AV input the pots are unavailable.

What is confusing me is that I was sure that when I previously selected an AV source on the Marantz it automatically switched the SN3 input to AV, but now nothing happens as far as the SN3 is concerned. Selecting the AV input manually on the SN3 works fine, but I’m sure I didn’t previously have to do that and I can’t think what setting I have overlooked.

Any help would be appreciated, although I suspect it might well be a setting on the Marantz…

If you were using the SN3 before when not in AV mode, it would have been in integrated mode and you would then have used the volume function of the SN3 (having set the Marantz at an acceptable level first)?

Thanks - there’s no problem with the mode, AV is working fine - it’s just not being switched to AV when the Front pre-out is being sent to the SN3 - and I think I’m sure that used to be automatic before.

It’s fine when I change the input to AV.

So the SN3 isn’t detecting the signal from the Marantz and auto-switching to AV?
Were you using the front pre-out previously? Is there a rear pre-out (perhaps with a slightly different output voltage)?

Thanks, that’s the problem in a nutshell - same SN3, same Marantz NR1711, same Front pre-outs. There is no rear pre-out.

Is the SN3 capable of doing this ?

There’s no mention of automatic input sensing in the manual. I think you’re imagining it!

There is a programmable function to allow automatic input switching where the appropriate source input is selected as soon as any handset function for that (Naim) source component is operated. That doesn’t do what the OP remembers (auto detect an input signal and switch to that input) - a function the SN3 doesn’t have.

@philiphaines - you don’t use a universal remote do you ?

According to the manual, automatic input switching via the remote is only on the 5si, not sn or xs.
Always read the manual, they say, but can you trust the content? (“Auto music sensing” on the nait 50, anyone? Switch off, yes, but not switch on).

Indeed. The SN3 manual doesn’t mention the auto switching function, but the SN2 manual does.

Thanks all, although I’m still not certain whether I was imagining it or not. Does anyone know for certain that the SN2 auto-switching does/does not work on the SN3.

I’m not using the Naim app or remote when switching to AV, it’s typically the TV or Virgin remote/ARC.

Only works for a Naim source; Naim cd player, Naim tuner etc.
That’s the way I read it:
