This is news to me.
The choice of component, in this case the Alps Blue Velvet potentiometer, forms part of the design and sound characteristic of the amplifier as a whole. The point at which it’s equally balanced between left and right channels differs between amps even of the same type and vintage.
My youngest daughter has a habit of twiddling the volume and balance on my SN3 so I have a habit of checking it more than usual in my case. I find it sounds balanced to me at around 1:00 - 1:30, it sounds distinctly off to me at 12:00. There’s no “click” at 12:00 for a reason.
The older NAIT XS/XS2 did have a balance control from the RCU which gave visual feedback on the LED on the volume Pot, flashing at the mid point, that was removed from the XS3.
