SNAXO 242 for Kudos Titan 606

Quite a system. Good luck, tell us how it goes assuming you can source the right 242. The one thing I just would not do is go for a ‘standard’ Naim SBL/SL2 SNAXO. I think that is an economy/compromise too far.

It does all seem terribly complicated. If you really want active have you considered ATC or PMC active speakers? All you’d then need is a 332 preamp, to which you’d connect your NDX2, and rather than adding a 555 you could swap the NDx2 for a 333. As you don’t already have the 606s it has to be at least worth exploring.

Thanks Bruce,

I agree, best to source a SNAXO 242 (T606). I am sure one will come up!

Hi HH, I have ordered the Titans and my supplier is taking my existing speakers. Due in the next few weeks. Paid my deposit so there is no going back and these are my end game speakers.

Really wasn’t that keen on the ATC’s (SCM40A’s) or the PMC’s I have listened to.

Fair enough, the die is cast. I’d therefore go with the 282/250 next, then a 555PS, and only then consider active. But that’s just me.

HH, Thanks for the recommendation!

You’ll hopefully be so delighted that the lure of active will fade.

You may need to be patient if you want a 242 for Titans as not many were made. I guess your decision about when to move to active will depend on when you find one. It may be worth getting an Exposure if you find one - you could always sell it on if a SNAXO turns up later.

I did audition another loudspeaker that was truly stunning The Arke Audio loudspeaker system Mikros/Altus/Kratos 2way/3way/Subwoofer this was an amazing setup but couldn’t see it in our listening room. Jason the designer has been at a few recent shows promoting his latest design.

Absolutely!

To go active with the Titan 606’s utilising the equipment I already own. I envisage the additional used components I will need, should cost me less than £3k.

Does that include an NDX2?!

I think you’ve hit the nail right on the head here :+1:. The whole Titan range seems to work really well with Naim kit with considerable flexibility with regard to speaker and range/generation matching.

I don’t think, stress think, I’ve come across anyone saying they were unhappy with/didn’t rate this particular (Titan) speaker with that particular (Naim) box, then again, perhaps I haven’t looked particularly closely.

Nevertheless, from some recent personal research, I’m minded to think active speakers with a suitable source/preamp make for a more elegant solution than the earlier multiple power amps and external crossovers, always assuming you can get on with how they sound of course. I didn’t, so will probably wait for the active itch to fade .

I’m sure you’ll love the 606’s when they arrive.

I already own NDX2/SN3/HCDR Have the cables too. So will only need a NAP250Dr and SNAXO 242.

Ah yes, sorry I was confusing you with someone else. While a further source upgrade might be very worthwhile, I wouldn’t be put off by the naysayers - Derek from Kudos knows a thing or two about how to set up a good Naim system, and having listened to this one I think you are on pretty safe ground.

I would definitely consider adding a PSU to the NDX2 at a later date. 555PSDR or XPSDR. It’s going to be about the cost.

I run Titan 606s with my 222/250 NC system. Love them!

I do plan to upgrade further, but in spaced out steps due to limited funds (that I’m allowed to spend on my hobby).

plus an extra shelf for the rack

A well thought out solution, even better that you have heard it already.
