Yes, but we haven’t paired our remote to amp for one reason - when the in laws pop round to feed cats (when we’re away at weekends) they use the TV sound!
Explaining the NDX2 remote to them too much hassle, and if we’ve been listening to Tidal sometimes you also need to change input on switch on……so they just use the TV.
I did a thought experiment: if Naim had been all white for the past umpteen years and now changed to green, what would the reaction be? Is it that green is somehow a more domestically acceptable colour (and why) or is it just a reaction to change?
And yes I can see the problem of box matching caused by the change and I’m definitely a fan of an all-lights-off option. But 86 posts so far??
If you think 86 is a lot, try suggesting that new Naim boxes will be ‘modernised’ by having no analogue inputs from 2025, or that marketing execs have made the bold and dynamic decision to replace all the black casework with white or silver or bright red…
Just a thought, isn’t green meant to be relaxing from a psychological point of view? As for white I don’t know - makes you feel under a spotlight perhaps and therefore tense
I think this is absolutely correct but then we have to remember that. as has been noted, Naim had white lights before the green came along. Interesting as I always remember the leading edges of a lot of chrome bumper stuff used to put me quite on edge but the olive stuff felt much more relaxed even if the sound hadn’t especially changed.
I do think this specific decision looks to have been driven by people who know how to market rather than how to design and that it’s a recognition of where the brand is nowadays. To survive Naim has had to adapt and you’re as likely to see it written about in monthly style magazines as you are the hifi press. White looks quite dramatic in the kinds of spaces which occupy pages in style magazines whereas green is a very specific thing if you’re selling black boxes with fairly minimal to no screens.
I am surprised there’s been no mention of the impact of the new style of screens when discussing this. Green looks fine if you’ve a classic style UQ screen. It looks very odd alongside something like an NDX2 screen. White arguably functions better in that respect.
Naim used white, as RD says and you have reminded us, as dozens of companies did. Then they, er, saw the light, and did something that looked good and gave an obvious identity and brand. Then they decided (after many years) that New and Bold mattered more than all that. They may yet be proved right, whatever a poll today of actual owners (like those on this forum) might suggest.
To me, olive, OC and new white light boxes can go together just fine because I am not picking with my eyes. Thus, my CDS2 can be close to my NDX2. If I wanted to change either light, I’d certainly change them all to Green, but others can pick differently.
I’d also take HH’s point. If you only have one Hifi box, it is hard to criticise the look of an Atom.
Or we could go multi-colour like the Chord Electronics bits of kit. I like the looks of my Hugo 2 (although as has been discussed many times it is a bit of a marmite choice)
I’ve recently sent two more pieces of the green light gear back to have the light replaced because of bleed but I do love the green…I’m also running new classic white gear too and they all go together well. I’m hoping there will be no more bleed issues with the white.
So many lesser brands offer kit with selectable light color. I never understood why Naim couldn’t do this and make everyone happy. All of my Naim boxes have green lamps and it sure would be preferable to upgrade something and not change that.
