I’m running out of rack space for my soon to be delivered 333:333/250/NCV TT system.
Thinking of the SolidSteel Series 5 racks five shelf. Any experience with them? Dimensionally they fit our space. Quadraspire too wide and husband does not care for the Quadraspire. Isoblue not available in USA. Fraim is not for me given my vision and coordination. Ball bearings and glass shelves would be a disaster for us.
If you like Solid Steel take a look at Neo High end if they’re available. I went to my dealer with the same question recently and he suggested Neo. I bought the AV version and I’m very happy with it, it looks fabulous.
I can’t help on with the rack I’m afraid. From a brand perspective, I did use a Solid Steel WS5 wall shelf for my turntable for a good while. I thought it was very good. It was relatively easy to install and level - well thought out.
That’s not entirely true. I had the SolidSteel WS-5 wall mount for my turntable before I had the Fraim. I had a Salamander cabinet for the electronics. I also have a SolidSteel two-shelf rack, but I used that for my RCM. Now it’s in my home office. The top shelf has a printer and the lower shelf has supplies (distilled water and IPA/vinegar) for my Degritter II.
If I make a change again I’ll get a HRS rack or two for the equipment.
I might upgrade my Clearaudio Innovation to a Master Innovation this year. If I do that I’ll get a HRS rack for it and my Boulder phono-stage, and possibly a Minus-K isolation base for the TT itself. But I’m not planning to put a 140+ lb turntable on the top of the Fraim.
SolidSteel build quality is quite good. The WS-5 TT shelf is the nicest I’ve seen. The racks aren’t quite as nice as HRS, but the latter are significantly more costly.
Thanks. I discussed the rack options with my dealer. The SolidSteel would be best for me says the dealer. My current racks have enough shelves fot the 322/333/250/NCV TT. IF I choose to add one or two power supplies, I will need the new racks.
I just looked. I paid $400 for a Solidsteel S3-2 Two-Shelf Rack in Nov. 2018. I was quoted earlier this year $4375 for a HRS EXR 1921x2 (two 21" x 19" shelves), and $6275 for the HRS EXR 1921x3 (three shelves). So, yup…10x as much.
I think I’ll get the three-shelf version since I’ll use it for sources (TT + phono-stage + either NDX2 or 252), and put the rest on a single Fraim (300DR + 252 or NDX2 +SCDR + XPSDR).
