I guess like a lot of you - Sophie Zelmani is an edge of consciousness artist - probably made aware by either Radio Paradise or there is always one room playing tracks from her Soul album (usually My Soul remembers ). I was delighted to hear that her new album is now out - and boy is it good !! She has been out there for 25 years in Europe and Japan - and there are so many great influences in her music it’s spooky . Worth listening too on Tidal. Lake Geneva by Sophie Zelmani on TIDAL
Many years ago The Times of all things gave away an Album Promo CD with tracks by… I cannot recall for the life of me why. My parents were the Times readers and asked if I wanted the CD. Thought I’d give it a spin. Instantly loved “Always You” although the other two tracks had zero impact. Nevertheless I went off to explore in more depth. Never found a song or album which came near the simplicity, lightness or melodic strength of Always You. Doubt many others will have heard of her at all. Were it not for that CD I wouldn’t have either.
Intrigued by your post I went to view her website. What a mess. Doesn’t load on Duck Duck Go nor Safari. Will load pages from the menu top right only. Not really an inspiration to intrigue me any further.
Yes agree the web site is rubbish - I suspect she is more Tic Toc than good old fashioned websites ! Her music is pretty amazing however and gets right under your skin in such a nice way. Her guitar player (Hans- I think) is also something else . Reminds me of early Janis Ian
“All About You” off the Soul album is just a sublime track IMO.
Sophie Zelmani was the first artist SWMBO put on the playlist we used to make our first joint visit to a naim dealer.
The rest, as they say, is history!
Just played “Yeah OK” - one of my test tracks on Qobuz, to check the new Connect feature.
I discovered her in 2018. I fell in love with her music! She has a wonderful sense of music.
