Sharing my carefully curated Qobuz playlists here…
First we have a playlist of slow and romantic soul from male singers. Think Isaac Hayes, Marvin Gaye, (the massively underrated and disrespected!) Barry White, The Isley Brothers….The playlist title says is all!
Then we have a more diverse selection - male and female voices - but STRICTLY from the 70s and 80s - so the golden age. Nothing hard or abrasive allowed, think Anita Baker, Teddy Pendergrass, Bobby Womack, Roberta Flack… Again - the playlist title sums it up!
I met my wife 11 years ago a Soul sceptic - but she’s well and truly converted me! …we shuffle these playlists all weekend long. Hope some of you enjoy!
PS… You can also find these playlists on Spotify should you wish to….
…I keep them all synched up from the Qobuz master playlists with the brilliant Soundiiz tool…It does pick up tracks from compilation albums from time to time, but other than that I can’t fault it.
No-one could convert me! But then I’m not sceptical about it, simply disliking it, a lot, though of course there are a small number of songs I’ve heard that have been bearable, maybe one or two enjoyable. Clearly you have found something you like through your conversion, and a shared passion, too, which has to be a good thing (I can appreciate that even if I can’t apprecite soul!)
Ha! ….Honestly - I never thought it would happen (with me and a girl from Clapham) but it’s true…I was just the same…
If you are feeling remotely interested, listen to “Dark and Lovely (you over there)” by Barry White and Isaac Hayes…together….two legends, strings, monster bass, 10 minutes long…
