…is why I’m going to carefully manage expectations when I start my own build thread X)
Apologies for slight thread drift, watched a YouTube video “Making a £13000 turntable” last night, and another from the same channel on making a LP12 plinth. Some cracking woodworking, surface prep and finishing tips, veneering, spraying and polishing. Worth a watch, and apologies if everyone has seen them already!
I think what he did on the Purifi 6661, is not simply making the panels thicker, but applying constraint layer damping.
This is something I had been considering for mine as well from reading on different diy speaker projects.
Although in a way I was hoping to use it to counteract using thinner (lighter) panels (maybe 3 and 12 mm laminated, plus a mm or two of elastic compound) and keep the weight down. I’m going to build these by myself, and my back-of-the-napkin calculation shows that these will be over 50kg each in just MDF, without any of the drivers.
I do of course still have to run this by Troels.
The Faital 3WC-15
I’ve seen these too, he’s a very capable craftsman!
Oh yeah that’s right, I forgot you had told me before. I’d like to build them at some point but I hesitate about the space they’d take to store. I’d like to build a few more pairs so I can rotate every now and then.
Hi, Just a quick update … as you’ve probably gathered the build has been delayed somewhat. The past couple of months have been difficult, for reasons I won’t go into here, and the speakers have not been a priority.
With things settling down and the weather improving I’m hoping I can get back to them in a few weeks or so.
All the best,
Mark
Cheers for the update Mark. I have been wondering where you were at.
I’ve been concerned at your disappearance too, but looking forward to the rest of the build!
@Mark84 I recall you getting multiple additional resistors in addition to the ones supplied in the kit to play with. Did you ask Troels which ones to get?
Sorry for (ab)using this thread, but I plan to place an order soon.
Check with Jantzen Audio. You want whatever is specified for R1, plus the next higher and lower value at least. Personally I have always had to bring down the tweeter level. Meaning a higher value resistor than standard.just depends on room and system. They might come with the kit though so just ask first.
Kit and drivers have been ordered, workshop contacted. Now I wait.
I am looking forward to your build!
Thanks!. Myself, I’m partially looking forward, partially scared shitless.
I just spend a lot of money to do something which I don’t know I’m actually capable off. This could end up being a ridiculously expensive mistake.
Have faith in yourself. Take your time and remember the old saying…………Measure twice, cut once.
You will be fine. You might stuff up a few cuts here and there but you will learn fast as it’s a pain in the arse.
Just got a shipping confirmation for the kit. It’s 18kg, and that doesn’t include any drivers other than tweeters. These speakers will end up ridiculously heavy…
I’m excited for you. I know the feeling.
