Look I completely understand. I have 2 young kids myself..
I was training for a 70.3 Ironman. I’ve been a swimmer for years. I love it and hope I will be able to swim properly again eventually. If I can’t though, I do still love running. Not sure I’ll ride on the road again though, it’s just too dangerous.
It is a hard balance when you have a young family. Over the last year I’ve put in a lot of training hours so I’ve barely had time to even listen to the Hi-Fi let alone any of the outstanding jobs around the house. Now I’m at home with nothing but time the hifi has been on quite alot.
I think the illuminator 71 is a good place to start. Great performance guaranteed and a simple construction.
Hi Mark, apologies for the slow reply. Sorry to hear about your accident, sounds very nasty, I hope your recovery goes well and you can get back to your speaker mods! I had a feeling you’d still have them, they’d be very hard to part with. Look forward to seeing your changes when you’re back in action fully.
As for my health stuff, I posted on Dan’s thread (here).
Had my second op last week (was postponed a week) and it went well, now have quite a long wait to get the results. I too am not allowed to lift anything heavy or drive for a while … so taking it easy and making the most of the nice weather here!
The Kudos are nice speakers but they don’t have the scale or authority of the Illuminators which go significantly deeper and have a lovely rich midrange. The Kudos are too biased towards the top end for me, making them a tad thin/sterile. I just don’t enjoy music as much through them, but they’re fine for what I got them for … and they are nice looking.
The Revelator 851 is also on my list of possibilities, would be a nice challenge building their cabinets I have four browser tabs permanently open with the designs I’m mulling over … along with the the Revelators there’s the Illuminator 7751 & 7741 and the Faital-10-430. Came very close to pulling the trigger on the Faitals, there’s just something so appealing about the classic 3-way stand mount design.
I’ll make up my mind one of these days!
Hi @n-lot, partly due to cost, the CNOs have gone up in price significantly since I first looked at them, around £4k now plus cabinet materials etc, and also I think the ScanSpeak drivers have a certain something that I like over the Seas drivers … although that’s just hearing them in the Super20s that I have and the 606s quite a lot at dealers … might well be different in the CNOs, but an expensive punt!
Yes I’m hoping I’ve been extremely lucky on the health side
