Speaker Cable Length

Within the scope of an active system using 4 NAP 135s

Currently I have a pair of 7m NACA5 but when we eventually move house and maybe try the active option they would be too short. I’m wondering and I probably know the answer, is it possible to use say the 7m pair to the nearest speaker and another pair at 8-10m to the furthest?

The answer is - Technically ‘yes’, psychologically ‘hmmm’…

They should all be the same length so that the amps all see the same impedance. I believe that on the older (Olive) amps, the speaker cable formed part of the output network.

When I went active a few years back I had similar thoughts but in the end got three new sets all equal length. Peace of mind

They should all be the same length as others have said. What you could do is extend the shorter cables by soldering on additional lengths of NAC A5 so that all four are the same length overall.

Obviously you have to be careful about insulating the joins. No doubt there will be people who would claim this won’t sound right, but in practice I think very few people would actually be able to pick out the joined cable in a real blind test. The amplifiers certainly won’t mind anyway.

Thanks

Pretty much what I thought, not the end of the world, it will only be £500 extra by the time I flip the pair I have which in the scheme of things isn’t much
