We’ve tried the ‘close your eyes’ test and cannot hear the grilles on our Magico A3’s, so they just stay on. They are industrial metal mesh of a sort but fit with the aircraft aluminum cabinets.
Less than the cost of a Naim box, Debs!
Which naim box?
Last year i got a £6.5k quote for 36m² of 22mm engineered oak planks set in a chevron style!
But the nail biting questions remain;
Would a Naim box survive getting walked on for over a hundred years?
Would the new wood floor affect the audio sound to a greater degree than speaker grills on or off?
(Did you see what i did there ^ just to keep it on the subject topic)
Yes, I strongly suspect it would. We had a solid oak floor installed, after which I had to cover much of it up with a rug to control the sound.
David, I like the grills on, with the Titan T88’s, great looking speakers!
Thanks, but grills removed- the Titans just sound better with them off.
The grills do look nice though
David
When I had SBLs I had grills on. With the various ProAcs I have had, off. I recently tried to put them on but I felt I discerned a slight muffling - but as someone said above, it could be psychological.
Edge diffraction is surely a valid point especially with Harbeth speakers where the “Supergrilles” are slotted into the groove all-round the speakers. I just listened with the grilles off and the clarity in the midrange and bass seems to be improved. Less smeared bass lines with the grilles off. I have to admit that I usually don’t push the grilles all the way into the slot of the speaker baffle and that may have contributed to a more severe edge diffraction.
I like grills off! Unless you have children or grandchildren around , then I would leave on unless you were in the room to monitor them!
I leave grills on my c30s when I’m not home . But take them off when listening to music. Magnetic grills are handy
