My own compromised position, is sitting a foot or so from a rear wall that has two windows that are at head height. Their are old wooden shades that can be lowered and even that makes a noticeable difference. That rear reflection can easily be tamed by hanging drapes or even a large stretched canvas art-work( Would be my choice), acoustic panels. Anything to “soften the reflection” should make a large difference. I’d deal with it as more of an aesthetic problem and not go for ultimate sound deadening. It can easily be improved and still keep the room as full functioning and enjoyable for all. good luck
