Spotify Lossless on NAC-272?

Apologies if this is covered else where. Spotify lossless has now been enabled on my account. Can I listen to lossless 24/44.1 through Spotify on the NAC-272 via the Naim App, In settings It currently says this device only supports upto very high I.e only 320kbps. Is this a software issue with Naim/Spotify as Tidal streams higher CD quality on the Naim App. Thanks for any advice ?

Sorry, only 2nd gen streamers can handle it.

OK Chris thanks, so it looks like the NAC-272 will likely never be able to do it through the app unless naim update the firmware. Is there another way to stream Spotify lossless maybe through another software via the Upnp input? Thanks

I’m not aware of any way to get lossless Spotify as it’s generally only possible to use it through Spotify Connect into a 1st gen Naim streamer. There are possible workarounds for 24 bit Qobuz and Tidal, but Spotify don’t allow third party integration outside of Connect.

Lindemann bridge II is your future. (Not the Network model)

Thanks for the info, I will look into external options. For now I will carry on with Tidal as this sounds great and works well through the Naim App , thanks all for your responses :+1:

It won’t come with a firmware update. See Steve’s earlier post:

Unfortunately the older green screen products and muso1 can’t get it as Spotify no longer generate library builds for that platform. Apologies, but out of our control.

It’s certainly a shame, I’d love to be able to try the lossless on my 272.

As this is a fairly significant change for Spotify’s service could they be asked to consider updating the necessary library build for the platform used by the 1st gen streamers? I guess the core of the streaming board was not unique to Naim so this would hopefully benefit more than just older Naim users? In the unlikely event this happened could it actually be implemented into the 1st gen hardware by Naim? The built in Tidal seemed to work OK when I tried it or is the 24 bit of the Spotify lossless the straw that breaks the camel’s back?
I do appreciate the limitations of the older kit are well documented and the difficulties in bringing the radio update to gen 1 devices recently but, ultimately, it was possible. And, very much appreciated :slightly_smiling_face:
If you don’t ask you don’t get…

Just made an interesting discovery in that our Sony TV has Spotify connect and is lossless enabled. As we have this connected via optical to one of the digital inputs on the 272 we can play the lossless stream this way by directing the TV audio to 272 (we never use it for the TV as the lip sync is always off). While I’m sure it’s not going to be the best audio source it definitely sounds more open and detailed than the 272 built in connect (at 320kbps of course) which having a quick flick back and forward a couple of times is quite muddy by comparison. A bit annoying having to have the TV on to play music but an interesting option to try maybe.

I also have a WiiM Pro and that outputs the Spotify lossless stream, so I will likely try this out via the coax input to the 272 DAC. It will be interesting to compare with the Spotify connect and Tidal stream through the Naim App.

Reading the posts from @Stevesky regarding the hurdles Naim had to jump to get the in-house iRadio onto the 1st Gen streamers, I would say it’s highly unlikely, but probably best for Steve to clarify here.

Hi all,

Sorry for the delay. Tickling the forum is a little background task for me

272 which is Bridgeco based. Unfortunately not. Please my post on the Spotify Connect subject here:

You may well be able to do this using Lyrion (LMS) as your UPnP server some point soon. The LMS Spotify plugin (Spotty) behaves like Connect. It doesn’t support lossless yet, but the team are working on it …

I pretty much use LMS for everything and just use my NDX as a UPnP renderer.

do you think that using spotify connect quality will be lossless even with green display machines?

Unfortunately not, see Steve’s post above which explains that it will only work on Naim’s 2nd gen streamers.
