There’s a Steve Sells interview on the Whathifi site……

Thanks. An enjoyable and, if anything, far too brief read. Interesting to suddenly realise that he had a hand in the only Cyrus products I thought didn’t sound like transistor radios and a Roksan owned by an ex neighbour of mine which I thought sounded terrific. Ditto my 202.
Thanks for sharing!
And thanks to @110dB and team for the Nait50. It is a true classic. Wonderful sounding product! (And I love the fact it doesn’t have a remote so I have to interact with the lovely volume wheel. And living in the horrible touch interface era I love hearing and feeling the mechanics when changing inputs)
Great read that, thanks for sharing.

I wish it had one , but we all pay our money and take our pick.
It is a brilliant amplifier
I’m contemplating one as a back up.
Only one? Ive bought 3 now ! My “ backups” are with my 2 children.
You may be pleasantly surprised after the trouble you’ve been through with valve amplification
No trouble doesn’t mean better sound.
I’d strongly argue that a system without hum, hiss or other artefacts would be more enjoyable.
… but I don’t think I have trouble with valves. I have/had trouble with power supply/surge protection. Fixed for one then fixed for both. Have had solid state amps far longer than valves and they were no less of a pain when things went wrong.
I have no hum, no hiss, no cracks, and neither humming boxes, for my 2 tubes amp and pre. My tubes amps are dead silent.
I am sure the guys at Felix will resolve his problem, as Naim resolves faulty relays or replace a third faulty Nova for example.
At the moment the amp was supposed to have headed to Poland from the dealer first week in October. All has fallen silent, so today I’ve chased Poland and we’ll see where we are early next week I presume.
Annoys me when people try to score solid state v valve points. Each have positives and negatives/strengths and weaknesses.
I’m extraordinarily relaxed about what has now been a lack of music and TV since June when the DAC first went in. Indeed, since the DAC returned I’ve wired it back to the streamer but not actually turned it on absent the amp. Reality is that my ill-health retirement has given me so many other things to fill my time that I’ve had little time to miss any of it. I’m sure I’ll love having it back whether it was broken or not but my life appears to be doing just fine minus music and TV for the time being.
What a lovely read that article is. Hats off to the man (and his toys!).
The Nait 50 metallic volume control interaction is far far superior to the 552.
Don’t they both use the same ALPS Blue pot?
They do, but the feeling is quite different. To me, the 552 is larger circular and more resistant to turn and need to turn to certain level to sound good.
The Nait 50 has smaller circle and smoother to turn and the volume react very directly.
I’m guessing the motor control on the 552 volume pot make the difference in feel. I also like the Nait 50 volume feel much more.
Oh ya, why I didn’t think of that. The 552 got remote, so must be motorized while Nati 50 do not have it.. No wonder I feel it is so pure and nice to turn!
The level at which it sounds good won’t be down to the volume control itself
