No, you can do it while powered up, just be careful as the board is suspended and wobbles around a fair bit. It usually easiest if you can turn the unit around so the back is facing you when you do it.

Even then, the internal load is 10kΩ without plug and you have plugs for 1kΩ, 500Ω, 220Ω, and 100Ω, but would want most likely load an MM cartridge with 47kΩ.
The gain is only very slightly lower than the standard unit (i.e. still extremely high) - way too high for use with a MM cart.
Using the Superline this way might just work, but clearly isn’t what its designers had in mind and won’t sound good, most likely not even acceptable.
@Richard.Dane I only wanted to say that it might work in a purely technical way. Nobody should do it in the real world. The Superline isn’t meant to be used with MM cartridges.
