Hello, another polish member. Welcome.
Your avatar is funny, as it means ‘ duck ass “.
As for the SN2 vs SN3, I never have read here that people complain about a lack of Prat of the SN3. Generally they say the differences are mainly that the SN2 is a bit more powerful but the SN3 more open and refined.
I don’t disagree at all and expect no less being myself a Nait 2 type sound addict. Seems like Naim has done it justice!
Now that we’ve safely concluded that the SN3 has no PRAT and the Nait 50 needs no audition, life should be easier.
Life is easier. Under any circumstances just ditch your present system and buy a NAIT 50. Problem solved.
Hi.
A happy owner of a SN3 with HiCap DR here
Also, the SN3 is a gateway amp. It allows you to add a HicapDR, a Separate amp or use as a pre-amp which naturally leads to upgrading it down the road. So it only makes sense there would be a strong pre-owned market.
As far as the Nait50, Naim hit a home run with their new amp design so I understand the love for it.
Having recently obtained a NDX2 to combine with SN3/HiCapDR then having moved on to a 282/HiCapDR/250 DR setup I can attest that the SN3 combo was excellent, and easily could have settled there, just too tempted by grabbing a great deal on the hallowed 282/252 combo. Having recently heard both no question there’s a significant further step up in soundstage/ vitality and openness in the music, but at least $4 more in cost…can’t go wrong either way IMO…
Not the way of the future for everyone.
SWMBO was fully onboard with our upgrade to 7 boxes. She bought the speakers and rack and contributed to PSUs.
Sitting here tonight after a lovely meal out and she’s singing along to Dina Carroll (who she was once a backing singer for).
At the volume the 252 is at, and she’s singing too, no TV would survive I blame the wine flight.
In this house SQ wins.
However I do appreciate we’re in a minority.
The only Nait I have ever heard is the Nait 50.
This whole debate SN3 V Nait 50 doesn’t really add up as the comparison is Apples V Oranges
I really like the Nait 50 haven’t heard one but they have done a fantastic job of making a legacy edition of a retro icon.
I’ve no reason to expect it doesn’t boogie.
I’ve got an SN3 and have to say even coming from box collections of the older days I’m amazed at the grunt and slam this delivers I’d never really thought of Naim as a manufacturer for me as some of the design “ din wiring “ especially does not impress me at all having said that with some of the multi box connectivity this is a genetic compromise.
The SN3 also provides all the methods and variety of connectivity that I need it’s very big on current delivery and as if it really matter provides many more WPC than its new friend.
All this and DR technology and a number of inputs that I require all line in X3 renders the little one short of inputs for me.
Now the people will say but it’s a legacy product probably most suited to a retro second system.
I could not be bothered nor have the space for multi systems so my system has to have the functions I require or it won’t work.
This brings me to the pricing and no I’m not going to complain about it as it’s a new product with modern technology and one has to expect a premium for all the Ltd edition tooling and manufacturing costs involved.
Facilities aside and remembering the SN3 is “was “ a current classic item then perhaps people are trading in to this thinking if it costs nearly the same as a new SN3 it must be better as it’s new.
That’s what I meant by Apples & Oranges.
SN3 is a Classic top end product and should be enjoyed as such.
The Nait 50 is a real credit to Naim for bringing an icon back to life.
Use your ears and remember the facilities provided then enjoy.
I have a SN3/HCDR and was browsing “mint” used 282/250DR combos recently and the cash outlay for these would still be like $6-7,000 USD. Sorry but I can think of much better things to do with that money, so it’s a no for me. This might very well be the end of the NAIM line for me and that’s okay for me. I’ll take a glance at the New Classic Supernait but I will be looking at other brands as well. I have no long-term loyalty to NAIM.
I’m sticking with my SN3
Just love the way it interacts with my PMCs, no urge for an upwards or sideways move
One wonders what the successor to the Nait 50 will be? Once all the 1973 collectibles are sold (can’t be far off, surely, given the plaudits), what then…
Is the next mighty Nait integrated on the design table?
think we are far away from a sell out of the nait50
and in this thread it is more interesting what will be next on the sn3 green logo amp
That’s what I was wondering: mighty Nait = Supernait 5…what does the impact of the Nait50 mean for the SN series.
Or…am I mistaken in conflating the two?
Me too and I wouldn’t change it for the world!
I love my SN3. I also love my SN1. They are both great amps. I can’t explain how much my SN1 made a massive difference to my hifi experience. I’m sure the 50 is also great. I’m glad people are happy with them but why try and compare and diss really decent and established amps
That seems very sensible.
An SN3 is very good. Adding a Hicap made it so good it may well have killed Naim’s cheapest pre/power combo.
If you do want more detail, grip, pace and boogie, without the huge bill, a serviced ‘olive’ 82 and 250 would probably cost less than £2500, so the net cost after selling the SN3 is small (might be £0).
That was more or less my feeling when I had the SN3. Not sure I’d go so far as killed, but I never thought about changing after listening over various times to a friend’s 202/200. Of course, other variables may well have been at play but the SN3 did not sound lacking in the comparison.
Fwiw, I assumed that Naim ditched 202/200 because simplifying the range was good for profits, but a couple of dealers have since suggested that they just stopped selling 202/200 after repeated demos against SN3/HCDR.
It’s an outstanding piece of kit. Pick up a used HicapDR to go with it if you don’t mind the extra box-it’s well worth it.
