I could compare full Statements with a Nait 50. No comparison. The Nait 50 is the God of Prat. The Statements are like a turtle vs it.
You absolutely need an ND5 XS2.
I think most of the negativity is simply people wanting an excuse to buy something else.
If people are finding the SN3 slow and boring or missing PRaT either they didnāt audition properly when they bought them or there is something else much amiss in their systems.
FOMO of the emperors new clothes might have much to do with it.
Advertisements with used SN3 are huge, but somehow no one wants to buy them. I wonder why? Maybe, however, it lacks dynamic bass, speed and is overly insulated?
There are some real bargains on eBay on ND5XS2s. Itās not as good as the NDX2 (unless you add an external nDAC), but it is very good. I use one with 82/ Hicap/ 250/ Xplorers and it is well up to the task.
If you donāt need built-in Tidal, there are even bigger bargains on NC272s and older NAP250s.
On eBay today, there are 11 SN3 and only 6 SN2s. Most of those SN3s look to be available for c.Ā£2500, but turnover looks fairly brisk - the list looked different a few weeks ago.
Moreover, dealers still seem willing to take SN3s on P/X, which would be surprising if they were as unsaleable as you suggest. I also note that several people posting here have bought SN3s, which is tricky to square with the assertion that no-one wants to buy them.
I am also surprised by the assertion that SN3s have no bass, no speed and no PRaT. Have you tried one with speakers other than your (excellent) little SCM7s? In the same room and system, what amplification addressed this lack?
And the 300DR is like an old soggy Yorkshire pudding!
without over eulogising about the SN3, I had a Rega Osiris on loan last year whilst my SN3 was in for repair (another story), I had it for about 6 weeks, enormous drive and very detailed, altogether a fabulous beast and I was really not looking forward to the inevitable let down when my SN3 returned. Much to my surprise when I reconnected the SN3 I was greeted with an overall sense of refinement and control that I was really not expecting, if I had been offered a straight swop I still would have kept the SN3, less power and drive but much much more refined and this is without a Hicap DR. My only issue, and its a big one, is poor reliability, its now got a second fault, well actually a third, which Iāve put on the long finger getting sorted as its under warranty for another year or so.
This is a funny thread! When the SN 3 was released there were many favorable comments about the improvements over the SN 1 and SN 2. I do not recall much negativity mentioned at the time.
At the time I was quite happy with my SN 2 and did not need a phono stage even though people here in the forum stated it had improvements in sound.
Now a new classic system rolls out and some think it is a dog. If was I was looking to downsize to an integrated amp I would not hesitate to pick up a used SN 2 or SN 3 at their current prices. A ton of value for the money they are selling for.
JMHO - YMMV
Maybe itās tall poppy syndrome. However good something is, youāll always find those who choose not to like it for some reason or another. I think the Supernait 3 is a truly excellent amplifier.
Maybe some know something we do not, as the amount of SN3, Core, NDX2 on fleabay is interesting, more so when you speculatively watch a few and get offers like Ā£3000 for an NDX2, Ā£1800 for a SN3 and Ā£1,000 for a Core.
I would have said it is probably owners trying to better a dealer trade-in, but most are dealers, but i guess if the trade-in was low they just want shot of it.
I think the last bit is often right. A dealer may take Ā£1000 now instead of the Ā£1200 that patience would probably deliver, because they are short of cash (what retailer isnāt), and because the time taken to watch eBay and answer cheeky enquiries is time they would rather spend trying to sell a new 333 or whatever.
Make offers! Get bargains!
I think itās more a case of folks just off-loading gear to put some money on the table for more pressing and important things. I canāt imagine that luxury HiFi systems are exactly flying out of their stores during these difficult times for a lot of home owners just now ā¦
Hmmā¦not sure. Donāt think thatās much of a factor for a lot of hi-fi buffsā¦more likely, imho, that theyāre upgrading to NC or saving for it, or some other step up that long hill.
High end hifiers seem to be a comparatively pretty well-heeled lotā¦
I live in a much larger country than you and I see a grand total of two for sale across the common outlets. I would say this is typically the case and not uncommon for a successful product that has sold in enough quantity.
What amplifiers in SN price range are superior and have the drive, bass dynamics, and prat that you claim is missing from the SN3?
This has to be one of the sillier threads Iāve read on here. And man, I wish I knew where all of these ācheapā Supernait 3ās are hanging out as Iād probably grab one (certainly not in North America). As it is my local dealer actually has a couple of used ones at the moment, but still pushing near $4k. Think Iāll stick with what Iāve got, lol.
Thereās a 2021 SN3 for sale for Ā£2199 or best offer on eBay. Itās in Leicester. That looks cheap to me.
depends from your speakers - there are so many
The description on that one seems to suggest a hard life lots of scuffs and rubs etc.
Thatās a fair point, and any buyer would need to be confident about noticing on inspection/ getting their money back if it was knackered.
Pristine-looking examples will cost a bit more than that one, but there seem to be plenty for sale (and there seems to some actual turnover), and asking prices are not always transaction prices. Many examples should be available for a bit less than was suggested as the likely US price. Mind you, any gap may simply show that there is more of a market in them here.
