Forget amazon then.
Will check out youtube.
Thanks PeterR for all that great advice!
Alternatively you could get a pair of speakers that actually work in your room instead of jumping through hoops
My thoughts exactly - the room does not seem too bad from what I have read.
True, but I’ll give the speakers a little more time, just to make sure.
Cause I like what they have to offer, except…
I was thinking of trying a pair of Proac Tablette 10’s,but not sure they got enough bottom end.
I used to have Proac Tablette 8 and found them to be too lively and not enough bass for my liking. This was way before the Supernait 3.
I am not sure you will be happy with the tab10. I would not call them bright but if you are more sensitive to treble they may be a tad too bright for you.
I would try a more “reserved” speaker just to confirm that the room is not the issue. Maybe a harbeth p3esr?
Funny you mention the Harbeth P3esr.I used to own them and I borrowed them the other day.I like them but not enough bass for me.I listen to a lot of old jazz and I got to hear and feel that double bass! I still find the P3’s rather bright. Again, the room is part of the problem, but not all the problem.
But thanks for the suggestion. And I guess the Tab 10’s are maybe not what I’m looking for.
I also tried some Spendor Classic 4/5,and not enough bass. Maybe I need to go floor standers like a Spender A4 or A7?
Ok fair enough. Your setup seems to accommodate a bigger speaker. Maybe the harbeth c7es? It has plenty of bass and a very balanced sound. Or would that be above your budget?
C7es may be too big for my room.I tried the Harbeth 30’s.They were smooth and not bright, but big and a little boring/polite if you will.I heard that the 30.1 are not like that.
If speakers give me the results I’m looking for,I don’t mind spending 4k,as long as they’re not too big, like the 30’s.After all,my room is 12x12 and it is a living room first.
Thanks for the suggestions conlegno!
I’m using Spendor Classic 3/1 with a SN3, lovely and smooth, not remotely bright but still lots of detail, great bass too and that lovely Spendor midrange. I had issues with other speakers but these just work for me. They don’t get much press for some reason but highly recommended if you want plenty of ooomph without doing your head in.
The newer Harbeth are quite different from previous models. Worth trying a 30.2XD or C7ES XD i think.
As for the P3ESR beeing bright, maybe the Rudy Van Gelder remasters are the culprit ![]()
Now for the lack of bass: did you try changing your listening position, just to check you are not sitting in a place where the bass frequency is way below or above your ears…
I’ve read great things about the Classic 3/1.Maybe a little big for my room but I’d love to borrow a pair.
I’ll keep my eyes out for them.
Thanks Hollow!
LOL,you are so right about the RVG remasters, they all seem to sound bright! Too bad really.
I had my P3’s on the recommended 24 inch stands, about 8 feet from them. The problem is,my sofa is against the wall. But I did have some great moments with the P3’s;some Sarah Vaughan and Billie for example.
Also had great sound from a Yamaha as1100 and the P3’s a few years ago.
The bass was ok to really good, depending on the material. But just inconsistent.
Either way,and I know there’s no perfect speaker, but any other suggestions for small bookshelves or small floor standers that would match my criteria?
It seems odd the demo speakers sound good but the new ones don’t. Perhaps you can get the dealer to part with the demo speakers.
I know, right? The main difference between the Neat Petite Classics and the 30’s is the crossover and wi-wireable connections. The dimentions are almost the same and the measurements are the same.
Maybe the Classics I borrowed had many hundreds of hours on them.Or,the crossover on the 30’s is tuned brighter.Either way,I got about 450 hours on mine.I will play with room acoustics and dacs for now.If that doesn’t help much, then I’ll sell the speakers.I postponed the dedicated ac line for now.
And yes,I can buy the Classics I borrowed from the dealer if he still has them. They were warmer sounding to me than the 30’s.
Oh ok, I didn’t realize the specs are different. That’s likely your culprit.
Specs are the same. But the dimensions are a little different.
Dimensions are specs. It’s different.
It’s way too early to think about changing your speakers. It’s a ridiculous proposition at this stage. NEAT are broadly renowned to match well with Naim amplification. Sounds like to me that you need to have them connected properly, and with a decent source component.
Sonus Faber, you will have no brightness at all. Or Harbeth. Try to remove the tv, just for experiment and see if it’s the major problem, before changing the speakers.
