Supernait tape out question

Hello! I recently acquired my first piece of Naim gear - an original Supernait. I think it may have a problem, but wanted to check with the experts here to be sure.

My understanding is that the top row of buttons selects the input source and the bottom row of buttons sends that input source to tape out RCA terminals.

Everything works as expected with the exception of the bottom “tape” button. When that is selected, there is no output on the tape out RCA’s at all. I have tried both analog into the Tape RCA inputs, and mapping the top tape button to a digital input. In both cases there is no output.

I’m guessing this is not expected operation. Can someone with Supernait experience confirm?

Thank you for the assistance!

@jeremybrooks I don’t think the supernait does not have a tape out in the traditional sense.

On the Supernait 1 only, the bottom row of input selectors are specifically for tape monitoring.
With Supernait 2 and 3 there is no dedicated tape monitor button; the output simply mirrors the selected source.

it’s a Supernait 1, and the tape out buttons all send the signal out, except for the tape button.

Ok, it sounds like my Supernait has a defect. thanks for confirming.

Do you have output via the Tape IN/OUT DIN socket?

Note that by default the TAPE input is mapped to a digital input (DIGITAL INPUT 1), so maybe try re-mapping it to another input and see if that works?

My assumption would be that it is a configuration / mapping issue. When I got my SuperNait 1 it drove me crazy but by following up the steps in the manual I got it sorted. That’s many years ago, I’m afraid I cannot really help you.

I have connected a tape deck to Tape In RCA. Sound comes through the speakers but nothing to Tape Out when the Tape record source is selected.

I have also mapped the Tape In button to a digital source with identical results.

That was my first assumption. However, I spent quite a bit of time with the manual and playing with various mappings, and am able to make every other Record button work as expected, both for analog inputs and digital inputs.

It is consistently the Tape record source button that doesn’t seem to do anything.

There’s something I don’t understand here; when you say that every other Record button works as expected, do you mean that say if you press the CD record button then it sends the CD signal to the tape out as it should? In which case that sounds like it’s working fine.

I don’t think it will allow you to send the Tape record source to the tape out as otherwise you will get a nasty loop.
