Superuniti help needed

Hi - 2 things have happened simultaniously but not necesserely linked. The screen on my Superuniti has dimmed that I can bearly see it now, and I cant connect to any stations using iradio anymore. I’m ethernet connected and it displays 6 Music but wont connect. But it has lost all my favourites. How do I reset my network connection? Thanks.

Have you updated the firmware of your SuperUniti in the last couple of months? If not then that is your problem with iradio. You need firmware version 4.9 to use the new Naim iradio service instead of the defunct vtuner service.

The dimming screen is very common and you will need to get the screen replaced. Naim do it for just under £200, if you are in UK. It will go completely quite quickly, if it’s already very dim.

Thats sound advice, cheers very much. Will follow up on both actions.

Here’s the firmware update links page. I strongly advise you download the guide first and read through before doing the update…

Cheers - I’m running V4.4 and 7.5.1 on the app. I think I need to connect my macbook to download the latest firmware.

4.4 is several versions out of date, so definitely worth updating. If you haven’t done an update before, follow all of the instructions very carefully, as it will fail if you don’t do everything right.
(You can ignore the sections about whether your streamer is too old to accept the update, as this applies only to older streamers released before the SU arrived.)

If you intend to have your screen changed imminently - arranged only via a dealer - have a hunch that when the unit is returned, Naim will have done the update for you, which in any case is somewhat easier with a working screen; ymmv.
If you do decide to update, follow Chris’s wise words! Yep those of us who have done in many times sometimes goof it! You can upgrade direct to version 4.6 from 4.4.
When the screen is fixed, ensure that you have the screen set to off after a short period.

Naim will indeed certainly install the latest firmware when they change a screen.

And it’s 4.9 that he needs not 4.6, but anyway he can indeed go direct to 4.9 from 4.4

So great tips. Lastly, Im in Chelmsford, Essex, I presume I find a local dealer for both upgrade & fix and go from there?

You will find a Naim dealer in Harlow as likely your nearest. Just ask about the screen, if the update isn’t done at the factory you can always do it yourself.

Thanks David, with my SU and UQ2 currently off, I checked the Naim website, photo attached! How long has it been since the forum were first highlighting these issues?

@Richard.Dane is there yet to be serious progress on correcting or updating information on Naim’s website?

When these streamers were first introduced, Naim expected their dealers to install them for customers. Some dealers should be able to do it for you, it’s very easy once you’ve done it once or twice. Screen replacement, on the other hand, is more likely to require a return to Naim service dept.

As @sound-hound says. Naim do a special lower service price if it’s just screen change, about half what a service otherwise costs. The reason they have to update the firmware is that the current screens read backwards unless the newer firmware is installed!

I’m next down there in August for the forum visit and it’s one of the items on my agenda to ask James while I’m there.
