I’ve taken up an opportunity of a 2013 NAC 252 with a Olive SC that was recapped and DR’d in 2018, so I’m grabbing that along with a new NAP 250, which should set me up nicely as an end system. Lots to look forward to.

I’m also adding one full Fraim level for the rack that I’ll have the NDX2 on.

Only room change was sealing the gaps in the door, which I had to do twice as they wouldn’t shut and I had to replace a broken handle (which I hadn’t fixed for 15 years!).

Still thinking about bass panels behind the speakers and an acoustic panel on the wall behind the couch. New curtains are on order for the external and two internal windows. I might also get a TV cover,

So, it’s all coming together nicely,

Nice one Mike…the 252dr and 250 are a great combo, sure you will be happy.

That is a cracking system you are assembling there, Mike.

Didn’t realise it was possible to DR an Olive SC. You learn something new every day.

The ‘SuperCap’ is the first version and comes in the Olive casework which does not match the 252. The ‘SuperCap 2’ is the first version to match the 252 in the classic series casing. The ‘SuperCap DR’ is the latest version with DR technology.

I am confused now

Are you sure it’s olive supercap, not supercap 2, @Mike_S ?

It’s in the Olive casing and recapped and DR’d in 2018 , so effectively a newish SC 2.

So it looks like that?

I guess so, I don’t have it yet.

I thought I’d read somewhere that the CB and Olive casing doesn’t have room for DR modules to be fitted?

I’m solely going on the word of my dealer, but I do have a mate who added a DR to his Olive HiCap.

Useful to know. Thanks

Cymbiosis info had a NAIM headed flyer the has a note at the bottom

NB: Vintage ‘Olive’ or ‘Chrome Bumper’ NAP250 and 300 units
are not compatible

I’ve sent an inquiry to GIK about treatment, any other ideas are welcome. Here is the room layout:

I recall an AV specialist specifying and fitting a high-performance sound-attenuating door on a specialist commercial presentation room. The door was fitted with inflating seals around the entire door edge. They quickly found out that, it prevented emergency egress as you had to wait for the seals to deflate and if someone arrived late the sound of the compressor reinflating the seals was irritating. They binned it for something more conventional. Interesting idea though!

I’ve tried to do this using heavy fire proof door and rebated seal around edge of door, unfortunately not very effective.

I decided to apply a bit of Kiwi DIY at room treatment, to see if it works in the room. Do I now have a pair of small white bass traps, some egg shells hiding cables in strategic places and a couple of absorption panels, The new drapes arrive this week;

And the results for sound?

I’ve just played a few tracks and thought it was quite a bit cleaner on the bass. Pretty good for $150.

I think I’ll grab a few more egg shells to poke under the back of my desk.

I also need to decide whether to wall mount the white panels behind the speakers, they are just leaning there at the moment.

Heading out for a quick walk.
