Swedish style hifi units

Agree with you, considering either Norrgavel or Clic for new apartment as well.

LĂ€gom Studio are based in Boston, Lincolnshire and actually make their products there, as opposed to the design here, made in the Far East model favoured by many.

Funny that they call it LĂ€gom when it’s not even a Swedish word. The correct word is Lagom

Yes I don’t know where they got the umlaut from - having said that I didn’t type the umlaut either - the computer thought it knew better🙄

My best guess is that “Lagom” might be pronounced “LĂ€gom” by many native english speakers

This was my very first IKEA hack in the early 90’s! I bought a veneer blade for my mitre saw, cut down the legs on three Lack side tables and connected everything with threaded rod and epoxy. It fit the budget at the time and I thought it worked quite well.

Hey @Adikt someone else got there before us, ( starting a new thread topic on “ furniture inspired solutions for an audio system” ).

Timely! Your cabinet looks awesome. We’re not at the point of committing to long term furniture with potential plans of a move in the near future but I’ll be following this post closely for inspiration.

I actually use the IKEA Lack as a stand for Qbs in a couple rooms and an IKEA support for serious hifi in another room. But I cannot say the IKEA supports are really performant compared to a proper rack or in fact any better than any other bit of non hifi furniture.

Swedish design has a lot of variation. It’s not all one thing. There is very much a sliding scale between simple squared units of simple block colours like white towards more organic wooden curves very similar to mid century Danish design. Perhaps the OP could provide a non hifi example of the sort of aesthetic they are hoping for?

Lukase Oak Hi-Fi Rack, it doesn’t get more Swedish than this. They build their products at the factory on Gotland, Sweden’s largest and most beautiful island located in the middle of the Baltic Sea, directly east of Stockholm. Their products are made of solid Swedish oak that is oiled and each shelf has its own damping in natural rubber to isolate vibrations. The units are modular so you can build on multiple shelf levels and there are two different base heights to start from. The basic unit consists of four shelves as shown in the pictures I attach.

Good luck/Björn

Try Koda Studios in Hull. They’ve made an excellent bespoke hi-fi unit for us. Their designer Katherine went through several design iterations with us to refine the original concept. They are very flexible over requirements and knowledgable about Scandinavian design.

Just had a quick scan over their website. I like the look of what they design and manufacture - all done in Hull too!
