I have a predominantly NC 300 series set-up and have a query regarding System Automation. I use the Naim/Focal app to switch on and off from standby mode, so that when I touch ‘standby’ the NAC 332, the NSS 333 and their associated NPX 300 power supplies all power up or power down in the correct sequence. The issue is - the NVC TT and NPX TT don’t. Similarly, changing the display brightness settings on the 332 changes them on the 333 and 300s, but has no effect on the NVC TT and NPX TT.
The phono stage/PSU is connected to the 332 via the Type1 Power Supply input (8 pin DIN) that came supplied with the unit.
Am I doing something wrong? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I have the NVC TT and NPX TT combination. As far as I know, the 300 system automation doesn’t connect to them. You have to turn them off and on independently and set the brightness of the display manually as far as I know, but I could be wrong. I think I will go have a look at the manual.
I wondered if that might be the case. I was slightly confused by Section 4.5 Standby Power Settings from the User Guide:
“The standby power setting on the NVC TT is only applicable when it is powered by the NPX TT power supply. The standby power setting on the NVC TT phono stage depends on the power supply used. It needs to be powered by a pre-amplifier which can control the standby settings.”
(my emphasis)
It is not an example of clarity to my simple mind. I think it means that when powered by the 332 or 222, the system automation will work. When the NPX TT is used, you have to set it manually. I currently have mine set to “instant on” via the switch on the back of the NVC TT. I might experiment with it set to “stand by”. Brightness level is controlled by the NPX TT. I do wonder why one unit doesn’t have all the control settings on it, but I expect there is a good reason for Naim doing it this way.
I agree. Ambiguity is definitely at play in the User Guide here. I have my set up the same as yours, so have to manually switch the power supply on and control the brightness settings at the phono stage. First world problems maybe, but it would be nice to have the elegant solution of one tap on the app doing the business for all of the 300 series kit! Thanks for taking the time to reply.
