@emrei of course, for me I don’t need Tidal etc. I buy music on CD. I have a subscription but rarely use it. I enjoy the process of buying music and playing it vs playing it to see of I want to buy it! Everyone is different! I would not get an ND555 and keep the CD555 as that would require 4 x 555PS DR and 2 x SL interconnects otherwise it would be a step backwards.
Innous and naim streamer- excellent choice:-)
I see your point, 4 PS is just crazy but if i go for ND555 i dont see my self selling the cd555
I need to find a way tonuse them both! I dont have vinly so cd satisfy my music buying and i have lots of box sets that i will never rip!
Nice system. How does the Zenith Mk 3 Streamer port perform?
Phil
you could have a cdx2 connected to the nd555 ( dac) for occasional cds listenings and the nd555 for most.
@frenchrooster this is an interesting solution actually. CDX2 as a transport into ND555 with twin 555DR vs CD555 with twin 555DR. I wonder if the CDX2 system could rival the CD555 in that instance…
I maintain a Meridian 200 CD transport into my NDS, just for that situation.
If a visitor comes round with a CD to play, it can just be popped it and played.
Otherwise it out with the Laptop, rip the CD, tag the files with correct metadata & album artwork, upload to the NAS, rescan the library and then the tracks are available to be played.
Having a CD playback path available avoids, “why do you need to do all that to just play a CD”, “you make it very complicated” type comments and observations!
i don’t think it will equal the cd555. However not tried. But for second digital source, it’s must be high enough, and much less expensive than 4 555 dr.
Nobody will have 4 555ps:) summer is for streaming, winter for cds thats how you use 2 555ps with cd/nd 555!
Cd2x is way too expensive and good sounding to be transport only
Steve, your system and layout sounds very similar to mine. I’ve just bought some extra Fraim shelves which could accommodate an NDX2 or ND555 and power supply but it would have to be connected via WiFi.
you will really bother with winter and summer? if you find the nd555 better, you will want to listen to it on summer, winter , autumn and springs. However i speak for myself. And disconnect and reconnect the burndys is a pain in your a…
Without issue. It has been a seemless transition. Much improved from using my Qnap.
Or just use tidal?
Sound quality?
I had them passive with a single 500 for some 10 years before I stepped into the madness with active about this time two years back. In the end now it’s really fantastic but has been quite a roller coaster getting there.
Someone forgot their legs!!
Less background noise and a smoothness to notes - helping to refine what my Hugo is doing.
My DVD 5 serves as a transport for the ND555, it seems to have a signal earth as it upsets everything if I have it’s analog out and the ND555 plugged into the pre but using SPdif is fine. I think I’ve played 1 CD in the last year and 1 DVD but it’s there if I need it.
@Yeti how is the sound quality in that configuration? I suspect somewhat lower than the ND555 fed with CD rips but I would be interested to know how close it gets.
More pictures please, less talking
