I was using Ferg20’s own description of his own system, and I guess you have missed my point entirely by being so picky.
No TT?
entry level? ( for Ferg20). i guess nobody like this term too🙂
Oh dear. I actually meant my post to be a general comment rather than a reply to you. Even so, a bit surprised by your prickliness. I stick by my view that no Naim equipment deserves the ‘humble’ epithet.
As you replied specifically to my post, I assumed it was a criticism of the language I used to describe ‘modest’ Naim gear. And I was actually complimenting Ferg20 on the look of his set up.
Thanks for clarifying.
That’s all in the assumption that the word “humble” is actually denigrating. I often find sincere humility to be a rather attractive trait in many arenas of life…and see quite a few examples where a dose would be quite refreshing.
Is certainly take “humble” as an enduring compliment.
I wouldn’t describe any of Naim’s products as humble - it’s all high end stuff that normal folk think is a really expensive way to listen to a bit of music.
You must always feed the source directly for the best quality whether it’s digital or analogue. This depends on what’s being fed through the tv, ie I use the V90 for three sources - My ps 4, the x box one x and the freesat/blue-ray player. So always use and connect directly what is coming through the tv to the dac so bypassing the tvs inner audio curcuits. The only case where this isn’t possible is with the tvs inner freeview tuner or maybe freesar tuner as well. The dac has two optical and one co-ax, but one selector/input is split between two digital inputs so you must switch off the source which isn’t being used for the other joint input to work. This is the only negative to using this fantadic dac. I also have an IFI SMPS which is supposed to be a substantial upgrade to the dac as the one which is standard with it is a cheap chinese one which are very poorly made and can contribute to poor sound if your mains is particularly congested with many differing electrical appliances.
Anyways the standard power supply sounds superb still as i havent used the upgradeable PS yet but i will soon. I am still amazed at the high SQ coming through the dac but i do use the HQ optical cables such as the QED performance and the VDH opti which is a superb cable too.
Te Belden canare co-ax cable is te best VFM cable i ave ever bout as its a true 75om cable and it cost around 20.00 from ebay.
umble doesnt mean bad in any way in tis case it just means clean and understated and lack of lorification.
I previously used te line out from my tv to my amp but te sq wasnt tat ood just okay. Te direct sound source trou te diital inputs on te dac are so so muc cleaner and more realistic.
Sorry about te missin letters my keyboards letters arent workin properly.
A lovely clean umble look. Its all about te sound and wats real.
I ave te same amp as you, its a little beauty if used wit suitable power cords, te sa8 amp plus and properly fittin connectors.
Ive noticed one box atop te oter.
Doesnt tis contribute to resonace or deradation in SQ.
Loving the simplicity.
Good Morning All,
Whilst keeping my fingers crossed that Wales can keep Australia at bay…
Hopefully I’ll mage too get a couple pictures of my system. One part way through re-assembly and one post the streamer arriving.
Regards
Richard
Did the same, a very humble Pro-Ject DAC really uplifted the SQ. On a pound per sound, one of the best investments I made
If that’s a 52 or even 82 your missing a little tweak. Light up furthest away bottom record channel and Press mute on the bottom red selection. Then press green mono 4 times in a row, this will lock in bottom record section. I can’t tell the difference, but that’s what you do…,
Which speakers ?
Request for a frontal pic of the humble system…
mpw,
Active Isobariks - what other speaker is there?
Where’d id the bit about button pressing on the NAC52/ 82 come from. It is currently a NAC82 but I’m hoping to replace it with a NAC52 shortly…
I note the correct spelling of Welch???

Richard
As in Raquel, no doubt.
HiFi can be a bit like politics, a lot can change in a week. The new speaker stands have made the Gales sound faster and leaner, making them more responsive and dynamic, which is cool. But with the similarly fast and lean NAP110 in the driving seat, it’s all become just a little too forward for comfort. Time to break out the big guns and dust off the 250 for another try. What can I say, it seems to have worked out perfectly - the slightly darker and fuller sounding 250 has restored the tonal balance and yet added its ability to do scale and drive in a way the little 110 couldn’t hope to.
