System Pics 2019

Hi - Speakers are Usher Dancer Mini 2’s. They are very underrated in my view. I have upgraded the internal wiring for Chord which made a positive difference

They look like Sonus Faber Olympica

Lovely new 500 Dunc, how does it compare to your previous active 3x250?

Fantastic loudspeakers.

Loving it thanks, decided after trying the nd555 on my old active 250 system that i needed to change things, because the nd555 did not add anything like it should have.
So speakers went, all 3, 250’s went and the 500dr and fact 12 speakers came in.
Massive difference and for the better, the 552 and 500 work so well together and my fact 12’s suit my room much better as well.
Never thought i would go back to passive but must say my system has never sound anywhere near this good, plus loving the more simple set up

Hi Dunc, how effective has your sound proof wall been? I am thinking of trying to sound proof my alcoves in my listening room so as not to annoy my neighbours too much!

Hi much better than it was, mine was a normal stud wall ( 3 inch wood with 12.5 mm plaster board, skimmed each side) in the middle of what was a cavity wall.
I built another stud wall infront of that with dense rock wall insulation and then twin layers of 12.5 mm sound board, i also made sure that the exisiting stud wall did not touch the new wall, so it has a small air gap and no vibrations can pass through due to them touching.
I did this to first try and make a more dense wall for my sbl’s as they just sounded crap against the stud wall and it did make them better but they never got back the bass they had in my old room with its soild wall. It also helped for noise transfer between rooms.

As long as you do it right, its quite cheap to do and if you dont want to lose as much space you can get special wall fixing frames that fix to existing wall and then you fix the sound boards too and they stop vibrations etc.

or maybe a Townshend anit-vibration device under that chair so instead of the speakers its the chair that does the wiggle

It’s been quite some time since I last added to this thread. I recently changed my (as described in something I read) monkey coffins speakers and I’m now playing with a pair of Shahinian Larc’s. Tried them on the floor and now trying them on stands. Both with very good results.

Is that your normal listening position, or just for the photo?

Wet and miserable day. Braved the floods and some idiot in a tractor holding up half the country (for once I made use of all 245PS and probably the fancy limited slip diff too - thanks VW) and got the shopping done. Now it’s me time. Big mug of tea, fire lit and Jeff Beck about to play live…

Love those little Larcs. I was tempted by a pair for sale in the other place for a second system as i’m a Shahinian fan. Great system.

I left the UK many years ago, and I’d forgotten all about radiators. On this thread, I see a lot of equipment parked very close to radiators (unavoidably, I guess). Are there any concerns about having wood and electronics so close to a heat source? I’m not being snarky here – I ask because I genuinely don’t know.

Also, presumably, sound reflections.

My turntable is directly in front of a radiator, which is only turned on once a year when the heating is serviced. I think that the wood in the plinths would dry out and warp if I had heat that close.
