I’ve noticed that too; glad I’m not the only one.
Blandly neutral acceptable - outright ugly not! Good sound should apply to all hifi speakers.
Maybe the EL50
but there was a member of the previous forum I remember, I think he went by the name of Mass, settled on a pair of these when looking for speakers to go with his 500 but he didn’t stay with Naim for very long after getting them so maybe not a perfect match. No grills by the look of it but at least the boxes aren’t too shabby.
These ones are wonderful!
Still, if a stranger walked into an owners room for the first time and came across these - they wouldn’t think “Hey,this guy has a great eye for design” more “Jesus Christ, this guy really takes his music seriously”
A couple of Naim stacks might give that away without in any case and I suspect they’d need a Statement telling them what for to make any sense, and the castle to put them in.
“yes, and why are strangers walking into my listening room anyway. It has a lock for a reason”
If they just had a single binding post and a fabric grill they’d be perfect
these Ten Signature are on granite square, and Isoacoustics 155 stand.
these little speaker are fantastic for their size
Yes my room is just over 9’ wide and 16.5’ long with an opening on one side for bi-fold windows and an opening into the main living area at the end, basically an extension across the back of the house and I don’t think I have any bass response issues or any other frequencies, sounds fine to me anyway which is what important but I will be having a play with a NAC 252, SC and NAP 300 tomorrow in the same room to see what that sounds like, after all it is not all about going super loud but being able to get a good system response at lower volumes, have to think about the neighbours lol.
Spent Thanksgiving with friends breaking in the new set up along with the Kanta 2’s! Couldn’t be happier!
First post on the new forum. I’ve been moving house and my basic system has a new dedicated room. Naim Uniti (classic), NAP200 and Spendor A5 on Gaia feet. My old LPs are reduced to wall decoration.
Having a play with a NAC 252, SC and NAP 300, source NDX 2 and XPS DR. Seeing how it compares to a Supernait 3 and HiCap DR, early days yet as only got system today to try. Before you say it I know that the installation of the kit is not ideal, cable routings, vibration isolation etc. But I am only trialling the NAC 252 etc to see how much of a better match, cost and spec, to my Sopra No. 3’s the electronics are. I’m not saying the Supernait 3 is a poor match though as it does sound pretty dam good already. From initial playing I think clarity and impact come to mind but this may be just a volume thing and thought that it must be better as it is a significantly more expensive system but how much, further playing over this week is required lol.
Looks great, Naimite! Really like the ‘wall decoration’.
As you say, the placement of the kit - one box on top of the other - is not ideal, however, if that’s the only option, it’s worth ensuring you have the head units on one side and the power supplies on the other, so 252 & NAP300 and then Supercap & 300PS. However, needless to say, getting them properly separated and on a proper rack (especially something like Fraim) will bring big gains all round.
I’ve been considering the same upgrade, keep us updated Have the same system. Have you tried an XPSDR on the NDX2? Might give you the lift you need with the SN3. Would be great to hear the differences of 252/300 against SN3. Assume it’s better, but for the cost…
Hi Richard, unfortunately can’t get the Fraim due to space constrictions. Have been looking at the Simrak as would fit where I need it too. I have 3 choice of shelving sizes. What’s the minimum distance should they be away from each other? Thanks
NDX2/SN3/XPSDR + turntable on top
If you are putting the turntable on the top, and it’s just a single stack, then you don’t want to go too high. The higher you go the higher the centre of gravity and any movement, no matter how minuscule, is greatly amplified, which is particularly bad for vinyl replay. I can’t comment on the Simrak, but if it were Fraim, with your kit, I’d be tempted to go for a base 2 intermediates and a standard level shelf, or else leave off the standard shelf and put the record player on a wall shelf.
Thanks Richard, will try that set up, FRAIM may be something later if I go with the upgrade, I guess the question is where does one stop vs. The law of diminishing returns vs. cost as this HiFi game can get pretty expensive.
Very true. However, only you will know how far you wish to go.
