System Pics 2019

Is it the dps in „nussbaum“? Looks great!

Thanks for your response, in answer to this I wanted the two systems to be independent plus for the AV I wanted speaker match, front, centre and rears and the ARCAM AV receiver can Dirac calibrate the system to compensate for any room issues, NAIM equipment does not have this capability.

Well if you sold all this, could upgrade your main system. Stick an optical cable (or the other kind) in your NDX2 and have amazing home theatre stereo. And a lot more space, would sound a lot better too I would’ve thought…

Ps I ditched my surround sound for exactly this reason. If you have good enough stereo speakers will beat ‘surround’ anyday. Not being judgemental, but two systems in a small space seems a real waste. When you could have one amazing system that does all. I’d upgrade the naim with the money for all the AV stuff. That’s just me though

Also what does the hicap dr add? I have an NDX2/XPSDR/SN3… was curious how much difference it makes, have been thinking about it for a few weeks. Or even going down the 250/252 route…

I cannot disagree with what you are saying, the AV kit is what I already had before I got the stereo system. As to the HiCap DR I’m not exactly sure what difference it makes without it connected as I haven’t really tried that, I had the NAIM guys come up a month or so ago and install all of the equipment so haven’t really played with it too much as it was all set up. Yes I should sell the AV kit but not sure how much I would get for it BUT I’m thinking about a possible change of the stereo system a bit like you, keep my NDX 2 and XPS DR and replace the Supernait 3, HiCap DR with a NAC 252, SC and a NAP 300 power amplifier, got a home trial next Wednesday to see how the system performs with with Focal Sopra No 3 speakers sound. That will be fun, let’s see how much that is an overkill that is for my small room lol. I must say though that the current system does sound good.

If you test that, you will not be able to return the 252/300 . It will be a shock!

Hi Andi,

and thanks for the kind words. My dps is one from a small batch of “Zwetschge“ (plum for the english speaking majority) tables Willi made about 10 years ago.
The room has changed a lot since I took that picture and more changes are about to happen. A new carpet improved both aesthetics and acoustics (less echo and reverberations) and a couple of armchairs are on order. I will take and post some pictures once everything is finished.

@mwomwell
You have some great kit and I’m interested to see that you have installed it in what looks to be a very similar sized room to mine. 9’ wide x 15’ long.

I have also found a balance with larger speakers than you would expect to work, albeit a bit lower in the pecking order than yours. 172 - 250.2 - Concept 40s.

Bass isn’t the problem in my room, brightness is and the 40s seem to give plenty of detail and airiness without ever sounding harsh.

This is probably quite correct. The difference from my SN2/HC2 to 252/SCDR was indeed stunning.

Great atmosphere, Philips hue?

Correct I do find different colours help depending on what mood I am in all the best.

More bearable without the grills but still ugly. Hate the dual binding posts. If they weren’t one of best timing speakers I’ve ever heard, I’d smash ‘em with a bat.

Tell me more about your Tablettes, that stand, performance, etc. I had Tablette Sigs at one time and boy were they nimble little speakers. These look really nice.

Yeah, but how do you really feel?

Do ATC make a non-ugly speaker? The grilles look like a fireguard! WAF = 0.
