System Pics 2020

To start, I know that the sconces I put on the wall are awful … my wife gave my attempt at DIY a Fail minus … I am to call an electrician and have it rectified.

Anyway, my system:

Left: NDX, SuperCap, Schiit Yggdrasil DAC, 300PS
Right: 252, 300DR

New speakers, Pure Audio Project Trio 15 Classic … had them 5 days and they’ve been running in 7 X 24. Bass is tightening up nicely.

Open baffle … 2 X 15in woofer per speaker plus a Voxativ AC-PiFE full range driver

Rear View of speaker showing back of top woofer. The rear grill frame drapes down almost vertically creating a “shelf” at the base of the speaker for the Mundorf crossover …

The crossover is a serial topology first order crossover …

They’re in “plonk and play” mode at the moment, taking up almost the same spots the Totem Acoustic Hawks occupied. It’ll be interesting see whether, and how much, I’ll need to move them as the break in …

Completely different presentation than the Totems … owing, of course, to being Open Baffle speakers …

Yes, those sconces are indeed awful. I had to check what a sconce was - a poncy name for a wall light. Take a look at Original BTC, they make lovely wall lights, and ceiling lights too.

And to pile on – get the electrician to run the wires inside the walls!

@HH @Bart

Dang … I thought by getting out ahead of the sconces I could head off this kind of abuse, but I forgot the calibre of the poster on this forum ( :grimacing: ) … (this is a joke for those unsure of this comment … )

I used the word sconce because growing up in Wales in the 50’s we were too poor to have wall lights … living in the States I picked up the word sconce … I checked Mr. Google and couldn’t find Original DTC …

Bart: Yup that was the suggestion from the wife … inside the walls … seemed like overly complicating it to me considering they were kind enough to include a power cord with a plug on it … and I have 2 power points just where I wanted to put the sconces. DIY is not my strong suit … Amazing though, the wife doesn’t come in here for weeks then the day after I finish my project in she pops … remarkable.

Original BTC (B not D) Hector wall light with wire. We have one in the study and it’s beautiful. We have another seven downstairs, but without wires.

Seen the same in room hospital :hospital:

Your Pure Audios look really great! It has been awhile since I have looked at those, they have done a really nice job with the grilles now! I did a double take at first when I saw your pics! Enjoy, looks great!

Thank you for the kind words … would you like to take the opportunity to comment on the sconces ?

No way on the sconces, John! I can do a lot of things including electrical work, but I’ll be bloody honest, if it was my wall, sconces, project, somehow, someway, there would be a couple of broken/smashed to bits sconces lying on the floor, and more than likely, a few big hammer holes in the wall. That is how my personal projects typically go…

Beautiful room ambience with perfect equipment set-up (hidden speaker cables, wow!). Sound must be wonderful even cranked up  Just the glass of wine missing… Enjoy!

Umm…a lot of likes for such a flippant remark considering our current circumstances. My Son is a junior Doctor and I have (or rather had) a Pub…

Maybe a thought for others less fortunate……?

I usually try to lighten the mood on here when it gets, let’s say, tetchy, but I think in these difficult and extraordinary times we should all think of others and choose our words and comments carefully.

Have a closer look and you’ll see the white NacA5.

Not bad, if you like brass.

I started my Naim journey with a pair of ProAc D2’s with my NAIT XS 2 before being seduced after listening to a pair of used Ovator S 400 in my dealers demo room. Retiring this year and plan to stick with my four box system and wanted a new pair of speakers. The ProAc D30RS were on my list and a pair arrived at my dealer and he gave me a call. With the COVID-19 issue arising I have had an extended demonstration and I’m pretty sure when he comes back he will be picking up the S 400’s! The ProAc’s are sounding sweeter with each passing day!

Life is Grand and the Music is Sweet!

Hang in there big guy. Hopefully we’ll all get through this.

So, the ProAcs are better with live music? Yes, I know what you meant, SK. What makes them “sweeter” than the Ovators?

Tony, first off thanks for catching the Live vs Life, it should read 'Life is Grand!"

To tell you the truth both set of speakers are wonderful and I could live with either pair.

The thing that has drawn me in is the bass just has been sounding much better with the ProAc’s. Over the past couple of weeks I have played a lot of music and there have been songs played where the Ovator’s have sounded better, then other songs the ProAc’s. It like being pulled in both directions.

Another influence which has been great is that the wife has sat through a few of the listening sessions during this time frame and her preference in sound has been the D30R’s.

The extended demonstration time has been a bonus but not the circumstances on how it has come about. Since the speakers have been dropped off social distancing efforts were stepped up and now moved on to a full lock down and the dealer is now closed for the time being. So I have been able to enjoy them for an extended listening period. For the past few days I have just stuck with ProAc’s and they have grown on me and have won me over.
