System Pics 2020

Thank you, SK. The other half has no saying on what I do on my “listening room” as long as I let her do her own shopping and keep my mouth shut. Still trying to work out if I’m kind of short changed on this one.
I’ve been toying with the idea of, maybe just maybe, trying something else speakers wise, and you’ve wet my appetite. So, if anything goes wrong, guess what?

…you can blame me, I must be at least 6,000 miles away!

I had D30R for a couple of years. Can’t tell what finish you have from the picture, looks almost black and white. They can be a bit fussy about setup.

D30RS’s have the Cherry finish. I used a Monochrome camera for the picture since I enjoy B&W photography. I’ll get around to using a different camera for a color picture.

Thanks Hifidelio, I’m lucky the lounge faces south which is brilliant on sunny mornings. Very pleased with the sound from the Evokes. Wine later!

Rebuilding or adding a wall on the plaster wall behind the speakers. Some say wood sounds better than plaster board.

Also it looks real nice. Behind the wood panel is 45 mm of wood insulation.

Work in progress in quaranteen.

Good Morning All,

Have taken the self-isolation opportunity to re-arrange the system taking on advice about separating the power bits from the signal bits. I’ve been accumulating Quadraspire bits accordingly.

My first attempt where I placed the power bits on the left soon demonstrated I hadn’t thought this through properly as the Burndy cables had to stretch a long way to fit the NAC52 and even the cables from the SNAXO to NAP250’s wasn’t ideal.

After some head scratching I came to the conclusion the only way I was going to be able to resolve this (and allow the LP12 to be connected without extending the Urika 2 cable) was to re-locate the equipment on the opposite side of the room. This is annoying only from the point of view is that all the sockets etc. were now in the ‘wrong’ place.

System now as per the picture below. LP12 still to be re-established after the Ikea unit has been moved and the spiked feet for the Quadraspire feet arrive. Cabling much tidied up with all signal cables coiled and cable tied and all power cables on the ‘power’ stand cable tied to the right rear ‘leg’.

I’ve had to introduce one more extension cable and may look at buying bits and manufacturing a ‘bespoke’ job.

I have ordered a new one piece Blue Jean 8mtr Cat6A cable to connect the streamer.

The new ‘power’ shelving unit has one vacant space to allow for the 2off NAP135’s which will drive the bass units once they have been serviced by Class A (and I’ve worked out how to do this with the SNAXO 3-6).

The eagle eyed may notice this is a ‘new’ pair of Isobariks with altered midrange and tweeter units - these are a significant improvement.

Regards

Richard

I have the brawn (power) bits on the right-hand stack, brains on the left.
And think that that is pretty common. Did you consider just rearranging it that way?

Bart,

Yes it is now the other way around as the picture shows…

Ah ha. I’ve been waiting for a pair of the upgraded Briks to show up. Did Simon H do them? I’ve been contemplating having that done myself. My Mid and Treble units are newer Falcon units that replicate the originals but as you have the upgraded Mid and Treble I’d be fascinated in your views on how they change the sound and if they retain the fundamental character of the Briks.

Yes that’s definitely a preamp on the left. Other than that, I’m no good identifying olive boxes!

Is that chair in your listening position?

No these aren’t Simon Hamnett units.

There is a lot more detail in the midrange and above and upper bass region is a lot more detailed.

I don’t see any loss of the essential ‘Isobarik’ character myself.

I have one pair of IMG/ Elac 128/20’s woofers and am looking for another but will try out the twin NAP135’s on the existing Kef B139 units first. The B139’s fitted to these speakers are the later, higher power versions - I really would like to do an A-B comparison with a set of Isobariks with the earlier version of the B139 to determine if there is any audible improvement.

The 128/ 20’s are a much deeper design than the B139.

Saving up for 135s?

Brik envy here …

It’s a NAC52 sitting over a Karik/ Numerik sitting over a SNAXO 3-6 sitting over an Akurate DS/3.

Yes that is my listening position as suggested by GIK at 38% of the room length from the front wall. It does look odd but it works very well…

those are scanspeak tweeters and midbass i think…

The revelators ?

Direct sound field … ideal
But do you need the baffles?

By baffles I assume you mean the acoustic panels - yes very much. They have considerably reduced the acoustic issues in the room (including the two hanging off the ceiling, the tri-traps in the rear corners and the bass trap on the rear wall)

The tweeters are Scan-speak Illuminator D3004/ 662000 and the midrange Illuminator 15WU 8741T00 units.

The one downside is that I now have two pairs of Isobariks I don’t need…

I saw something was being serviced but missed the 135 reference. Apologies.
When I swapped my active SBLs for Ovator 600s my kit was serviced; I was amazed at the difference.
