Put together a Surround system, with Briks!
Inspired (or should that be shamed) by an HH observation in another thread, this is my first post after a long time merely browsing the forum. This is my third simple Naim system. After starting with a UQ1 and Proactive DB1s, I upgraded to an Atom with Neat Momentums and Iāve now arrived at a Nova with Kudos Super 20s. Hard to believe where all these wires came fromā¦
Very nice indeed. Itās always good to see someone else using the conduit under the fireplace trick.
Good day everybody,
I have had this olive serie 3 active system for a long timeā¦ Still going strong.
Me too - Iāve conduit under the fireplace, my only regret is that I didnāt use a large enough diameter & did something different with/instead of the exit bends. It limits the possibility of speaker cable experiments (a blessing in disguise it could be said)
Iāve changed cables a few times, itās quite easy with a round cable, but large, stiff or odd shaped cables can be very limiting.
I have Chord Odyssey & will probably stick with that - until a house move
He has a very keen eye! Heās pointed out to me at various times that Iād built the base wrongā¦boxes were not uniformly placed on Fraim glassā¦etc.
When I laid a wood floor in our last place I reinstated the whole of the lounge skirting using a commercial PVC skirting trunking system. This was great for hiding and retrofitting bulky HiFi speaker cables, although I donāt suppose the purists would be happy, preferring lifters in open air.
Something my Sophomore English Teacher in HS once said to me when he was trying to instill some culture into a future engineer.
De gustibus non est disputandum , or de gustibus non disputandum est , is a Latin maxim meaning āIn matters of taste, there can be no disputesā (literally āabout tastes, it should not be disputed/discussedā).
It became shortened to āDe gustibusā as a retort in conversation. Funny how some things stick with youāits been nearly 60 years.
I take your point and hadnāt considered the remark in that context. I thought it tinged with irony.
Apologies indeed. Iāll be more thoughtful in future.

I put two 20 mm conduits under our fireplace when the room was given a make over and log burner installedā¦happy days. But, pressure of work, kids watching videos, probably fell out with the music scene a little as well , my system a cds, active SBL,s never got put back. After a few years i sold it all. Boy do i regret thatš¬
Good plan the conduits, even today, perhaps especially today due to cost, we sometimes struggle to convince commercial clients to future proof their installations.
Mind you we still managed to get it wrong, we suggested 4 x 90mm ducts, twice, side by side in the pavement for IT distribution between buildings. I came back a couple of years later to retrofit some more cabling and found most of the ducts absolutely rammed and the installers had rough-shot over the intended segregation between suppliers, and internal use.
I think your comment was best summed up āAs best of a bad jobā we are (I hope ) all looking for positives in these difficult times.
Best wishes
Thanks h-h, right you are (nearly invisible they areā¦ need better specs). Wondering why no white SLs available - would have been much better in my room as well (naim gotta be ādark colorā ā¦?)
Great looking system and room Rack - Seeing the N-Sats and N-Sub (and SL2) reminded me that Naim used to make some very good looking speakers.
Nice work behind the camera too
And in Frenchā¦āles goĆ»ts et les couleurs, Ƨa ne se discute pasā.
You can detect the Latin origin. This is still used currently in France today.
Thanks Graeme.
From reading many of your posts in the past, I know you are not the sort of chap to purposely cause offence, quite the reverse. I too will be choosing my words carefully, although I would hate to stifle debate on here.
Nice room by the way.
Bart, it was merely a comment about the fact that some very regular Forum viewers are very rare posters.
Oh! Well, in any event you do have a keen eye for system setup.
More ālong time lurkersā are posting; thatās a good thing.
What are the Super 20s like with the Nova, I was considering them to go with mine? Are they fussy about placement?
Nick
Iām very happy with them, although they did need quite a lot of running in to come on song. The fact that they are not too fussy about placement - I have to have mine almost touching the wall - helped in the final choice. For me, in my room, they are an excellent pairing with the Nova but YMMV of course. I currently use Kimber cable and I did briefly audition Tellurium Q Black II with them but could not tell much/any difference although that might have been because both the streamer and speakers were very new. Iām keen to try out the new Kudos (Chord?) cable in due course.
