System Pics 2020

Ha, ha. Naim integration into your girlfriends interior design projects.

Well according to the latest news, Aston Martin are now getting involved in Architecture, so perhaps Naim can set up an Interior Design consultancy arm.

Like the two Easter eggs hidden behind the right speaker.

Thanks Dave,
Cables are mostly standard, with some Chord between TT, Pre and Snaxo.

A picture of the 244 bass traps that recently arrived from GIK Acoustics. If interested, for my detailed thoughts, see the ‘Don’t buy new speakers…’ thread. I chose the Austen colour to blend as much as possible with the walls. I plan to mount the square panels to the wall and a bit higher up than present. As for the thin panels in the corners, I might leave them there or mount them - if anyone has any opinions please let me know. The wall is plasterboard which doesn’t help.

I have used the lock-down situation to do a bit of DIY. Firstly some speaker stands for the rear AV speakers then I decided to make a stand from off cuts of Oak (left over from making the 2m tall LED strip lamp on the left in the first picture) and leather (MGB re-trim project) for my recently acquired Sonus Faber Pryma headphones. I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I think the headphones are gorgeous things - I thought they deserved being displayed!

I also made some speaker cable risers from pine - you can see them in the last photo of the headphone stand in place. Sorry that the right hand side of the image is slightly blurred.

Are you satisfied with the sound now, with the 244 bass traps?
What improved? Any coins?

In short, yes I am very pleased. Soundstage depth and width, bass punch/definition, instrumental separation and clarity have all improved. The speakers have largely disappeared from the sound if that makes sense? The sound is also more full and consistent at lower volumes - I don’t have the volume control turned up as much as before.

It is more effective than a speaker upgrade? I don’t know for sure but I do know that I now have a sound that I am very happy with and I did not need to demo lots of different speakers in my room to get there. Also the total cost was much less than a new pair of speakers and if, for whatever reason, I wanted to return to the ‘old’ sound, I just have to remove the panels.

Should take one with the lights on Haim - the Nait 3 is sexiest with its green glow!

Have you tried putting the corner traps 45 degrees in the corners?

Any tips regarding acoustics? Perhaps the sealant can make some difference?

Are the Peli cases actually a beer store ??
Just so the wife doesnt find out …

I have a silent fridge just behind my chair to store emergency beers. The wife knows: she’s delighted that the music, black boxes and husband are not in the house.

Not yet - they are angled slightly but not at 45 degrees - I might give it a go though.

Hi,thanks, wish it sounded lovely ! Can’t wait for the lockdown to end,so I can get the SN3 repaired,a faulty relay seems to be at fault, still something to look forward to !

Are you driving them with just a SN3?

Lights are on, the machine is never turned off.

Sorry; I thought of that after I posted - recalling how in bright light it’s hard to see them, and wondered if that was the case.

I wish they would have given us a dimmer switch. At night, I find even the lights of the olive gear too bright for comfort. I cannot imagine how owners of the modern black boxes are walking around without sunglasses on.
