Yes I think there maybe a 100 hz difference in roll off between DBL vs NBL, but the previous owner of the DBL snaxo used them on NBLs without issue. The only thing I need is grilles but was told Naim got rid of all their speaker spares.
So the NAD is gone? Can you compare the Quad to it if not to Naim?
Did you perhaps try it with the Tisbury as well? (Iām of the opinion that the pre was the 372ās weak point)
Very nice! Iāve had my QSP now for several years and still think very highly of it.
Yes, but does it render everything else in the audio universe āunlistenableā?
The Nad c372 is an excellent amp for the money but youāre right and like a great many amps it is let down a by itās preamp section and yes the Tisbury did improve things tidying things up especially around the midrange.
In a side by side comparison the Quad /Tisbury does leave the Nad/Tisbury behind a fair bit, though they both go pretty deep and can drive big floorstanders with ease the Quad just does it better.
Where bass notes can at times be a bit one dimensional with the Nad with Quad they are more 3d, sounding more fully formed and rounded and this becomes even more apparent with the volume turned up it is here where the Quad excells in fact all of the way around the volume dial the Quad sounds excellent .
The Quadās Class A and Current Dumping DNA combines perfectly is much faster, more articulate and dynamic which is all the more impressive when you consider that even though I paid three times as much used the two amps cost about the same when new, yes the Nad does have a pre amp but add a relatively cheap passive like the Tisbury to the Quad and you have a fantastic amp.
The stories of Quadās sound being a bit pipe and slippers to my ears is not true this is a fast, dynamic modern amp that also looks pretty good.
pleased to see the Medical trolley is still going strong Bob
Nice to see you back, havenāt seen anything for you in a while
Thanks. I used own the c272 (same power amp as in the c372) and c162 combo, which Iāve always thought sounded better than the sum of their parts. You really made me want to try the Quad now, perhaps as an poweramp upgrade for my Star
Yes sheās still going strong. I was worried she might get seconded back to the NHS.
Thank you
Hi again. I would check they are a good impedance match first and also Naim and Quad have different signatures.
But the Elite QSP is a very good amp and it can be bought brand new for less than Ā£700 which is a bargain.
Thatās a very elegant set up. Somewhere for the rest of us to aim.
I would say the Utopiaās do everything I want in a headphone. Thereās wonderful detail, dynamics, ease, rhythm and involvement. They are like listening to a very good pair of speakersā¦ but the experience does not replace moving air in a room. Focal set out to build a great pair of headphonesā¦ they live up to the hype.
Oh, I have no doubt they are excellent, and I would love to hear themā¦I was merely joking how so often we hear the new thing or even minor tweak makes all prior excellent systems āunlistenableā.
Enjoy your new phones!
My wife would love it if I sold the amp and speakers and just stuck to headphones.
Iām sure she has more than a little company in that regard. Those with dedicated listening rooms are very fortunate indeed.
Iāve got plans to build a listening room over the garageā¦ just need the damn economy to bounce back!
Will it still have the same view?
Looks like this would be a great room for music, but still your splendid living room trumps, I thinkā¦ What about you keep the current room for Naim, and you put the family in the room over the garage?
Just joking, of courseā¦
