Thanks Bartman. There’s been a lot of changes in the last 12 months but it’s taken 15 years to get it to where it is now. The only things that remain are the first set of Fraim racks from the original system. It’s all really starting to bed in and open up now though.

Cheers, Rack.

Just an update I have decided to go with a custom built passive pre by Anthony at BTE Designs who will email photographs during the build which I will then post here and for those who are interested it will be made up of a basic BTE passive with the following upgraded components.
Silver wiring

Tkd 2cp2511 motorised volume potentiometer

2x RCA inputs

1x variable output

1x fixed output

It will cost over double the price of the BTE basic with most of the extra going on the potentiometer.

Well, after a rather long wait, putting pressure on my dealer and giving the poor rep a rather hard time about it, I have a SuperLine for audition. I was very interested in hearing one compared to my beloved Herron VPTH-2a, but was unwilling to buy one blind.

It’s just out of the box and has been warming up all afternoon. First impression is I don’t dislike it. The Herron is tucked away in a closet. I’ll just play music and listen for the time being before I add the Herron back in to compare. I had a Boulder 508 for the last few weeks and returned that to the dealer when I picked up the SuperLine.

I don’t know how I’ll stack everything if I keep it, but for now it just takes the place of my Herron on the base shelf.

Thanks Peter. That’s quite a thread. I know where to start. Enjoy the room and your great system. Mike

453R is apparently the optimum loading plug for the XV1s, I doubt you have that so 500R might have to do.
I bought my superline a year after lainch with a year’s demo use on it and it took a while to settle down with the bass firming up and the treble sharpening a little. I had 560R and 470R plugs in addition to the standard set and this translated to a change in preference of loading from 560 via 500 to 470R over a week or two on a 17D2. The InF plug can tame the top end if necessary.

I’m already set with the 500r and have talked to Peter at Cymbiosis about a 453r airplug. But at $400+ I’m not going to spring for that before I decide to abandon the Herron I have loved for six years and change to the SuperLine. I plan to give it a bit of just listening and enjoying music before I grab the Herron out of the closet and do some A/B tests.

Thanks for the advice. The top end needs no taming so far.

Are you powering it from the 252 Aux 2?

Thanks. My brother just had a baby daughter and has had to move his system from the spare bedroom and into the lounge. Unfortunately the cabinet it has been mounted in has no cable outs, they need cutting/drilling through - they were planning to sort this just before lockdown😐.

Once he gets it all sorted and back up/running I suggest he tries the output of the Sony before purchasing a DAC, though a DAC will also act as a system hub for his TV and Apple laptop so could be worth getting anyway.

The neighbours came over on Sunday evening for a patio soiree so I opened the windows and wacked the volume up.

After about an hour, the NAP250DR cut out. Going to investigate, I couldn’t actually touch it, it was so hot!

Anyway, so I moved it from (what turns out to be) it’s completely silly place at the bottom of the brawn stack to the top, where it can enjoy better thermodynamics…

Switched the ND5XS and the 282 for the obvious visual aesthetic and took the opportunity to move the NAPSC waaaaay off piste.

Happy days.

Have you tried Tom Tom for NBL grilles? I have no idea if they have any, but they might provide a lead. They’re only like stocking material.

Yes, and I don’t plan to get a second SuperCap for it.

Hmmm – if you decide to keep the Superline, do you think you will be strong enough?
