System Pics 2020

Hi Richard.

Great to see you are embracing room treatment. That recess where you have put a GIK Tritrap in ( at this point not sure if you are joking ), would it be worth simply closing it off ie as wall and filling it up with acoustic wool, which you can also buy from GIK= an invisible corner bass trapā€¦ et voila!:grimacing: ATB Peter

Thanks for the heads up! ā€¦moved to correct thread.

Surely it doesnā€™t filter out all their posts while reading a thread?!!

I thought those were C1. My dealer had a Qute running 5.4 off of a Qute so I do not under estimate the Atom either. Great little amps indeed.

Peter,

The intention of retaining the original recess was to put in shelves to store LPā€™s - I hadnā€™t even considered room treatments when the room was being stripped out and re-built.

Iā€™m not sure whether to use this Tri-trap or not i.e. just stick with the three - if I do then a corner is a corner - where else would I put it?

Iā€™ve fitted the brackets to the two panels to be fitted to the ceiling.

I need to consult with SWMBO before fixing anything even though it is ā€œmyā€ room.

I had a listen to the system this morning after the very crude initial installation and the bass had certainly improved being much more ā€˜clearā€™ i.e. less muddy

Regards

Richard

I had a UnitiQute (same rated power as the Atom) running a pair of Contour S1.4. I thought it was not up to the task. I could not play orchestral or other demanding music. There just was not enough power/current to control the speakers in a satisfactory way. That is why I bought a 250-2, which made a night and day difference (as one would expect). I thought the S1.4 were just too much for the Qute to handle, except for undemanding source.

Dyns, especially Contour on up, just need a lot of current to provide good control and output, at least with the music I listen to. I just upgraded from my 250DR to a 300DR and appreciate even more how much that is true (for my Confidence C2 Platinum). I thought my 250 did a great job, and the 300 makes me realize how much I was missing from them. Playing Mahlerā€™s 2nd with the 300 new and cold out of the box made that very obvious.

Ah, SWMBO always rules.

Any audiophile (or guitar collector) has a recurring nightmare that they pass away, and their wife sells the gear for what he told her he paid for it!

Using it for LP storage lends itself of course and it will eliminate that recess sonically no doubt. However the ceiling would not normally be the first point of call for bass absorption. Try and put panels in the corners of the speaker wall first ie behind the speaker front baffles and see the effect. In my experience eliminating unwanted bass was 80% won by placing panels behind the speakers and also laterally to the them ie on the sidewall, this still behind the front baffles according to the rule; DO NO HARM! If you have a rear ported speaker damping the wall immediately behind can also be advantageous. No 2 rooms are the same so, if you have a fair selection of panels, you will just have to experiment with it. How you manage SWMBO is clearly your ā€˜ tin-hat taskā€™ :face_with_hand_over_mouth: Have fun with it and just rememberā€™ Rome wasnā€™t built in a dayā€™. ATB Peter ( have enclosed a photo of my nearly finished room)

The bass absorber stacks in the corners are from Hofa in Germany ( retails through Thomann.de and comes in a multitude of colours) and they have proved to work well and are heavier than the GIK absorber centre on the floor. 16 kgx4.

My guess it depends on room size and type of music. That I found my Contour 20 to be tougher to power than my Contour 30.

Hi @Debs, thanks for the tip about the bottles, but bike was still there as I did a ride on Sunday morning and bike wasnā€™t unrigged yet. So bottles were cleaned prior to your reply - despite, thanks for taking care!
The saddle is, matter of fact, pretty much horizontal mounted. However, seating area is facing nose down by design. I bought it during (triathlon) bike fitting, and works perfectly for me. Itā€™s one from Specialized, Modell Sitero Expert Gel. And, yes, nice Cannondale :slightly_smiling_face: ā€¦

My room is 11ā€™ x 17ā€™ so itā€™s not like I have a large room. I think you can get Dyns to sound good with a lot of choices, but to really shine ā€“ and demonstrate what they are truly capable of ā€“ needs as much grunt as you can muster for them. The more the better. The 300DR demonstrates that only too well. My wife noticed immediately how well the C2s respond to the 300 compared to the 250. Itā€™s really like getting a new speaker upgrade when you give them the current they desire.

Why a pillow on the Briks stands?

Because the Linn dealer what originally changed out my Isobariks to the external crossover set-up advised it and these cushions/ pillows have been in place sinceā€¦

I guess I could try removing them?

Richard

Itā€™s good to have a (Linn) dealer with a sense of humour, Iā€™ve always said.

I worked for a Linn/Naim dealer in the 80s and never heard of this pillow thing before. And he was quite the perfectionist about setup.

Remove them and change the dealer

Those stands are supposed to ring. ( yes. itā€™s counter intuitive to the usual audiophile convention ) Remove them and make sure the spikes are coupled to the floor and not rattling. Better yet. put Naim Fraim Chips under spikes.
Where are your external xovers?
