I find that they do two jobs very well:
1/ keep my toes warm
2/ dampen any sibilant high frequency tones in the room. I’m not going to get room treatment past the interior decorating police, but can achieve 73% of the same effect with these socks*
They’re Icebreaker, a New Zealand merino wool fashion company. More importantly, they’ve got a lifetime warranty on socks - if they tear or you get a hole in them, they’ll give you a new pair. Given the cost of the socks in the first place I think they’re still winning, but it was an appreciated gesture.

Never understood that. When I lived in Singapore for 3 years back in 1959-1961, most of the people I knew wore socks with shorts. The adult men wore long socks with shorts. And those that smoked pipes stuck them in the (white) socks, which left a horrible yellow stain at the mouthpiece. But apart from that, I can’t see why it is so wrong.
