System Pics 2020

 The Speakers are 2m apart, and my head when sat in the middle of the sofa is 1.9m, so even though it looks like they are too close Iā€™m in the perfect spot. I donā€™t have to blast them (unless in the mood) to hear beautifully detailed and balanced music. The sound stage envelopes you. Tracks from Massive Attacks Mezzanine swirl around and even reach behind me, quite amazing for just 2 speakers.

Either that room is haunted or youā€™re really bad at selfies!:sunglasses:

On a serious note, does that 766 -lovely machine- get much use?

Tony, good to see you spotted it too! (the Sony TC-765 or 766 that isā€¦)

I think heā€™s got the 766-2, Richard. I think the 766 is a two track machine being one of the very few differences with the 765, right? Otherwise, identical isnā€™t it?

 Didnā€™t spot that and with a Marco Pierre style towel around my head too  The TC-766-2 was regularly in use with the 552 but sadly with the S1 I canā€™t record with it. I pull it out ocassionally to listen to some of my tapes.

Yup, 2 track version of the 765 with addition of 15 ips.

Iā€™d like one, although my TC-755 is just fine and dandy tooā€¦

Phew! Well thatā€™s the S1 struck off my upgrade path thenā€¦

As a professional Richard we expect the bat phone to HQ to be hot whilst working on a work round for this issue preventing you from a great upgrade opportunityā€¦just sayingšŸ˜‰

You need a set of IsoAcoustic Gaia feet on that occasional table.

Iā€™m curios to understand about your active system how did you install your powers to your cross? 1x500 and 2x300

Hi Meni. The 500 drives the top BMR and the 2 x 300s drive the bass units. The 500 is on the BMR because this has a wide band width and the power of the 500 helps control the BMR giving it more grip. The 500 is a fairly recent upgrade before that I used a 300. The difference is quite huge.

I might have misunderstood your question. The amps in an active system are connected to the speakers via the Snaxo, which is the shoe box on the 3rd shelf in the centre stack of my rig. There is no internal crossover in the cabinets.

Is that the new look Fraim?

BMR meaning for the Twitter?

No it isnā€™t a tweeter. Itā€™s called a balanced mode radiator and replaces conventional

Midrange and tweeter drivers. So you have the BMR and two bass drivers that handle

the bottom end.

Itā€™s a phenomenal speaker when powered with the right ancillary devices. Very natural and uncoloured sounding. Shame Naim stopped making them.

Didā€™nt you consider to send the speaker to Naim and make them passive?
This to put a Statement amplifier on them?
I understand the active way.
But isā€™nt a Statement more powerful and better then 1 500 and 2 300ā€™s?

Hi Iā€™d refer you to Darke Bear on the merits of active against passive. Heā€™s got so much more experienec and knowledge than me on active sound. Iā€™ve heard full statement and much prefer active, you need to hear it to understand why. A Really immersive experience. Final upgarde for me would be a 3 x 500s with the S1
