System Pics 2020

You have to listen for yourself…i have heard active 552/500,s and preferred the Statement amps over them. But throw in a curved ball of the Statement preamp with active 500,s…a sweet spot imo. The problem is active speaker compatibility going forward…limited Ovators/SBL/SL2 and servicing. So you are left with Kudos or try a Bryston crossover with a different speaker.

Thanks i understand now BMR is for both units

Don’t forget the mighty NBL and even mightier DBL, Gazza.

I would dearly like to turn back time to my active SBL,s and those you mention…next speakers are probably my last and Naim are out of the business…not heard Ovators, which might be more serviceable?

And those might be…?

Thats the rub…nothing has really grabbed me, that would get my wallet out…but that would be next year or so.

Ovator s400’s are only passive, you can go active with s600’s though Gazza

Speakers are the one component that are the most room-dependent. And that is the trouble with speakers, in that they are a real PITA to demo at home.

Still, you don’t need to worry about that for some time.

I’m starting to like you. First the big Lemmy poster. Now a collection of Valentino Rossi bikes. What other cool things do you have?

Yeah but what do you do about all the oil that drips out of it?

absolutely - spot on

When people say that speakers can only be passive - what prevents you from making any speakers active? I have certainly done that with my first pair of Naim speakers (602) by removing the crossovers and wiring in extra terminals.

I guess for your system and where you are currently, the next speaker will require a big pile of cash. Coupled with the PITA associated with home dem of speakers, there’s a lot to be said for the ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ approach. At least that’s what I keep telling myself!

I know it will be a PITA and at the moment the only speaker that wowed me were the PMC Fenestria, way too big. I keep wondering wether i should go and listen to one of the semi pro speakers that PMC produces as i have never heard them.

Have you thought about the Fact 12? That’s one which really impressed me. Sadly, however, PMC has stopped making them with real wood finishes and I couldn’t live with a plain grey or white painted finish.

Yes Clive i have. I had a long chat with the PMC rep when he visited Signals before lockdown. I told him straight that i liked them but quite frankly the two finishes are just not good enough for a £15 k speaker. I pointed out that relative cheap Q acoustic speakers are better finished imo. We agreed to disagree. He did mention that they had to change cabinet manufacturer and went to an italian firm…and this was all they could do? I i think of the likes of Sonus faber, they have lovely veneers on speakers half the price. I am hoping this signature series is a run out model, and something will replace them, with a decent finish.

Hi Gazza, you could try and give the IB2SE’s a listen and like the MB2s they are both a nice little stand mount  ( believe HifiLounge stock the top end of the PMC range). ATB Peter

Thanks Peter very thoughtful of you😉

 quite a bit in other rooms :upside_down_face: :metal:

That’s why bikes have drains :stuck_out_tongue:
