Reader’s knobs anyone?
I’m paranoid about my Apheta 3, I’ve never had anything so delicate and expensive!
Have you considered leveling the fraim? Might improve the P10’s performance?
When one of my old speakers packed up I had the chance of a pair of Rega Ela’s from a friend for very little money - I knew they sounded good. However as I was installing them my wife came in and said, essentially, “it’s me or the speakers”. To be fair she had a point, they were pretty big and dominated the room but I didn’t admit that obviously. To be even fairer she agreed to us having a new pair instead, hence the much more appealing RX-Three.
And of course, the now obligatory ‘view from the knob’…
The Cambridge Audio CD4 is now about 24 years old, so it has been great value. Now starting to skip a bit, can I fix this I wonder? (I don’t have upgrade-itis at the moment, it comes and goes).
Fraim is perfectly level,it’s me that wasn’t,on one knee !
That’s true,I had Ortofon M2 Bronze before, seemed built like a tank compared to the Apheta3,but it was my own clumsy fault.
I think that the Apheta 3 is no more delicate than any other MC…it’s just that it appears to be more delicate. In fact, the V-shaped protector device should make it a little safer. But I still take great care!
My first photos on this thread. I have been meaning to post pics for ages now, but talk of opening a 2021 thread (even if made in jest😀) has finally spurred me to act.
My system has evolved at a much slower pace than those of many on this forum. I have tended to keep units for several years before succumbing to “upgraditis”. So, I have only owned 3 different preamps, 3 power amps and just two pairs of speakers in nearly thirty years since my first Naim buy. This was a second hand CB 42.5 & 110 which perfectly complemented my LP12 and it’s recently launched Lingo 1. I still have the 42.5/ 110, waiting patiently for inclusion in my office system.
The system is located in our living room which is a typical attic space ( or ‘Penthouse’ if you are an Estate Agent!) wall heights vary from 700mm behind the speakers to 4500mm in the centre of the the room. I hope the photos give you some idea. The big change last year saw the arrival of the B&Ws after a prolonged search for speakers which would perform well in what is a challenging space.
Other changes late in 2019 saw the installation of a dedicated mains supply ( well worthwhile despite the domestic disruption ) many thanks to all the brilliant advice on the forum, and a change from NAP 250 to 250 DR.
I am hoping that my trusty CDX2 will keep going and save me an expensive move to streaming.
So it has taken a few years, which I think is testimony to the build quality of Naim ( and Linn) but I have enjoyed every step of the journey, and the music continues to surprise and delight.
Spoiler alert! These pics were taken a couple of months ago, readers of other threads may know that some other changes were in the pipeline, so will update when I can get a decent photo.
Nice shelving. What is it?
Damn! I bet you’ll miss her.
It’s the ubiquitous Ikea Kallax, perfect for vinyl.
Thanks @Dan_M as mentioned I have only had three preamps, the 42.5 a 102 and then the 82 bought 10 year ago. It’s been great, I do lust after a 252 but it is a huge step in the present financial environment.
that’s a great space and I like the colour scheme, very relaxing it must be nice place to sit and enjoy your music
So where does the missus live now?
Are there any suggestions for an easier to fit Aphete 3 stylus guard. I worry about accidentally damaging the stylus. The Rega stylus guard is very fiddly to fit. I hate to think what the rebuild cost is.
Thanks @Chris5 , it is a light and spacious room but difficult to capture on an iPhone! Having downsized from a fairly remote detached house to an apartment I have to remember to keep the volume down.
Hey @Spleen, just curious, did you audition other Focal ranges or other brands before settling on the Kantas? Would be interested to hear more.
Reminds me of that quote Jeff Beck made.
“My first wife said, ‘It’s either that guitar or me’, you know — I give you three guesses which went.”
Hi,I haven’t looked into that ,but your right,it is a bit scary. I knocked the stylus whilst changing an album,I’m waiting for the cost to come through, after the damage assessment, but I’m told it’s usually around a third of the cost of the cartridge ! An expensive error.
