System Pics 2020

If you don’t listen to the Supercap the Hi Cap is fine. But once I heard the Supercap the improvement meant it was a sale.
The problem with Naim is they have the improvements priced at just about the correct level.

Hidden, nearly behind the sofa, just adding some more surrounds to the Amator rears

That’s a fair collection of classic CB power amps there - 135s ?

Love the Naim + Harbeth combo.

Yep 9 x 135’s in use, one spare, three seperate sub amps

Nice :sunglasses:

Which sub amps? Difficult to find dedicated stand-alone ones…

I tried a very well regarded sub amp (used in some very high end installations) as I had one ready for a horn bass project. The existing Sonus Faber sub amps didn’t look as ‘Manly’ and I really needed amps I could remove the low pass filter as I EQ in the Acurus. A notable improvement in bass quality and a sense of scale. Which was already good with three subs

It cost me around £1k to change the existing in built amps to external. I had oak veneered plywood CNC’d to make the boxes and just glued together carefully and waxed. The amps are totally silent and £270 each from BK electronics BSBPV 500 (500w into 4 Ohms, 1000 peak)

I also love the look of your rack! I thought it was Atacama, but don’t think it is?

Loving all the pics, giving me some home redecorating ideas for my main room. Not so sure about the hairy legs, socks and slippers tho!

Home office set-up.

Was going to get a CB Nait and reuse my KEF R100’s, but lack of space and convenience of a Qb tipped the scales. My Qb even has a plant growing out of it!

Re-cycled/ stained cabinet, Audiostore Prestige Server running Roon Core for the Qb, and also feeding my main NAC 272 system via Sonore Bridge and Cisco switch.

Very near working space!

Sorry …neat!

Actually a much missed range from HiFi racks evidently hard to produce with the black inlay

It’s actually a £150 - new - stand called a Fisual Ensemble. It’s since been replaced with a Fraimlite. For the money it really is a solid piece of kit, but I found it a bit perverse to spend £20k on black boxes then scrimp on what they sit on.

Thanks. Do you know of a high quality external sub amp available as finished component ie. not a plate amp requiring a cabinet. If not, any ideas on suitability of class D monoblocs for this application eg Ghent audio…?

I would look into nCore amps. These are known for their powerful and tight bass reproduction. They are often sold as mono amplifiers and prices have come down considerably the last few years.

I dont know some of the other class D amps, the challenge is usually noise from some of the very high power cheap amps, but most audio targeted as opposed to pro should be okay. seems after talking to a number of people good quality power supplies with adequate caps and a high damping factor with enough power to cope with EQ gain reductions should be okay. I think there is less variation in sound quality with bass amps but I am very pleased moving from a supplied 400 W bass plate with a modest supply to a heavier duty amp. As every experimentation and allowing for equipment burn in makes it a longer journey

Thanks for that info. Fair comment about the ‘Black Boxes’ :+1:
