Ovator S400 vs ATC 40?

Nice, any initial impressions?

A couple of days ago I connected up my ATC 19a’s into the Naim system, using the cables we discussed on the other thread. I think I’ve fallen in love with my active ATC’s again!

Agreed. I love my Prelude 2’s.
My main listening is headphones now, but the Ruarks are still doing sterling service as the AV front pair driven by a Uniti 1.

Sorry, only one sock in the photo

Looks like fun, I have not heard the Ovators so I would not know how this might go, it will be good to hear your findings.

Ideally place both speakers in turn in the same spot.

Initial Impressions are there is more of everything and that’s saying something as the ovators have a lovely midrange and big soundstage. Bass is much better in my room on the 40s but I’ll reserve judgement until I can put them in the same spot the ovators sit. My hope is that they are less fussy about positioning with regards to soundstage than the ovator, they do appear to be as they are giving me wide and tall soundstage even being very close to the side walls currently, in which case I’ll be able to move them back and outwards a little after taking some more measurements in the same position to compare to the ovators in room.

A good track if anyone is interested and one that I always use for soundstage and “liveness” is jamiroquai - hurtin from the rock dust light star album. The guitar should literally leap from the speakers at the beginning of the track. Just fantastic, this is the track that made me fall for the ovators in the first place. I’m surprised and relieved that they are actually a very similar sounding speaker in many regards, unfortunately though I suspect I’ll be parting with my cash from first impressions. Sorry for war n peace :joy:

I’ve still got a pair of Ruark Sceptres sat idle in the bedroom. I replaced them with ProAc DB3s following a house move with a dedicated (but small) listening room. I shall probably flog them when things return to something like normal.

SO this happened yesterday…looks like my amp shrunk :smirk: And some new cables in the mix.

What happened? You received true audio signal cables?

And a Chord Etude

And what’s it like?

Not often you see someone with Crass artwork adorning their walls
My copy of Feeding the 5000 doesn’t get too many outings these days, prefer listening to it in the car where the lo-fi recording doesn’t get so brutally exposed. Classic stuff.
Sorry, thread digression…

The soundstage is more open with a lot of seperation. Not as “in your face” and great detail. Bass is solid and fast. Not fatiguing at all. The Etude drives my XLS’s with ease. Really happy.

Fresh install by a truly great Naim dealer, my third Naim upgrade in recent months but now I think I have found the perfect system! All changed black boxes, Kudos Titans only keeper.

Very happy.

Lovely Record Player Graeme I used the VMN50SH for a short while before getting the VM760SLC nothing at all wrong with the Shibata it’s an excellent cartridge but an SLC stylus came up for a great price and I couldn’t justify owning both.

I’m new to record players and have much to learn. Until the last few weeks, I didn’t even know that stylii had different profiles. I’ve placed all my trust in my dealer to make a deck that works for me. What did your newer stylus improve for you?

Yes, gorgeous

I found it gave me a little bit more detail in both the High and Low end but I’d have been more than happy with your SH variant it’s a fine cartridge but I was trawling the net one day and found Amazon where selling the SLC stylus for almost half price as the box had been dented so curiosity got the better of me.
