System Pics 2021

Hi there,

Speakers look great, did you progress to these from other Titan’s or straight to 808’s? Interested on your progression to these. I have the 707’s which I think are superb. Nice to see the Isol8 too, I have one and it made a big difference in my system. Thanks.

Why are your speakers so close to the ceiling?

The story of the 808s goes back years - my wife and I heard them when they had JUST been launched at a HiFi show (when she used to go with me ) and she in particular was absolutely bewitched by them. Still talks about the goosebumps.

Anyway - I had my heart set on some B&W 800D3, which had also just come out. I bought them.

Anyway - time passed - the B&Ws were great, but just lacked that Goosebump factor. We upgraded the system around them (I’ll have had a 272/555ps/300 when I first got them) but kept going back to the speakers.

So - to cut to the chase - as we entered lockdown, I thought - now is the time. So took advantage of a pair that was already in production - and had them personally installed by Derek Gilligan.

They’re amazing.

I’ve not heard the 707s myself - so probably can’t give you what you are looking for in terms of a progression, but these are all the speaker I’ll ever need. Well - until Kudos attack the £45k market with the 909s…which I’m confident they will!

Yes - ISOL-8 does make a big difference and does work really well with Naim, unlike many other power conditioners. I feel the sneers whenever I post a picture of it - but it only benefits the sound, and takes nothing away. And it looks good and is convenient. I mean, what’s not to like!?

Nice story, thanks for taking the time.

I’ve not heard the 808’s but I have no Doubt they are amazing, the 707’s are relatively new, I will organise a demo with my hifi dealer, which will no doubt only end up with one outcome!

Can I ask on positioning the 808’s from rear and side walls.

I posted a picture last night of my set up and in its current position the 808’s might be a bit snug!

Thanks again.

Yes - I saw the pic - look great - I love the white (they are white aren’t they, and not very light ash?)

I think they’d work - lots of people use them very close to the wall. They are really not over sensitive to placement at all - I have it from the man himself! …so if yours work well now - the 808s absolutely would.

That’s good to know, the 707’s aren’t too fused where they are positioned either, albeit I’ve found closer to the rear wall produces slightly better bass.

Yes mine are satin white, they were the ex demo set from my hifi dealer, so I wouldn’t have picked the finish but actually when in situ I was really pleasantly surprised.

I really like them - modern, contemporary, neutral.

I’ve had my last pair of Wood Veneered Speakers. Look so much better in a nice shine finish.

The Local Hard Case when I was growing up (I’ll have been 10, him a full grown adult of 18) had CRASS painted on the back of his Biker Jacket. Matched his Mohican. And his acne now I think back.

He probably never even looked at me, but he made an impression. I’m sure he’d be delighted. He’ll be 60 now :exploding_head:

I recently went from 707’s to 808’s, thought the 707’s were going to be my end game speakers as absolutely love them.

I started up with them in the same position as the 707’s that did work but ended up with them very slightly wider apart and a little further from the rear wall with no toe in.

Looking at your picture then you don’t appear to have that much width to play around with but the demo will show you how well they will work.

Really helpful, thank you.

No, it wasn’t directed at yourself @erchie84 , I spotted on @MattCray s post a few lines up from here I could see the corners of posters with the Crass logo on.
It’s just not normally the kind of artwork you see on this forum, so I thought I should give it the thumbs up in an appreciative way.
I wasn’t denigrating Crass at all, on the contrary, they were never supposed to be high quality recordings, more about the message I guess.
I’m really liking your artwork, I didn’t ever get to see Crass back in the day, but would have loved to have done.

I think I was 14 at the time my older sister took me to see them and that really started my music journey, although I like most genres they almost certainly hold a special time in my heart.

You know I don’t really remember what any of their stuff was like - possibly sound really tame now. The Exploited were another and that were more of a slogan to be worn on jackets that a band to be heard!

Amazed your sister got higher level sign-off to take you there!

Looks like you sorted out your Radikal then…
